Islam Makhachev and Dustin Poirier will clash for the lightweight title this June. However, one of them will be in his own custom shorts. Looks like the UFC has finally decided to grant ‘The Diamond’ his long time request and people cannot wait to see what it looks like in person.
The news first broke out on Championship Rounds on X. It was a picture of a special floral-designed shorts appearing on Venum’s U.K. website. The French manufacturer is the official apparel provider for the UFC. This is ahead of Dustin Poirier’s lightweight title fight against Islam Makhachev at UFC 302. On the website, it reads: “UFC Adrenaline Unrivaled by Venum Dustin Poirier Men’s Fight Short-Long Fit- Multicolor.”
This has led fans to believe that ‘The Diamond’ could be adorning this special kit for his showdown against the Dagestani champion. Poirier later confirmed this by posting the shorts on his Instagram. The custom floral design of these shorts was requested by Poirier about two months back after he beat Benoit Saint-Denis at UFC 299. The pair costs £114.99 which is around $146.64.
The UFC does not allow custom shorts and usually sticks with the regular basic shorts by Venum. However, it has made special considerations for fighters who have displayed incredible promise and performance as an athlete or there was high public demand for an extended period of time.
For example, UFC 299 saw bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley fight in his hot pink custom shorts. Meanwhile, Max Holloway finally got his Hawaiian-themed floral shorts in which he delivered an incredible highlight win at the T-Mobile Arena last month.

People were excited to see ‘The Diamond’ go for what could be his final title shot in the UFC in his new custom shorts. Some were not a big fan of the design. One user wrote that they could have come up with a better design. Another wrote that Poirier would be corny to wear this in the octagon.
