The anticipation is sky-high for AJ Lee’s in-ring return after more than a decade, as she teams with her husband CM Punk against Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch at Wrestlepalooza on September 20. This week’s Monday Night Raw in Massachusetts turned up the heat with a fiery confrontation between all four competitors, setting the stage for their blockbuster showdown.

Rollins and Lynch hit the stage in matching black gear, only to be met with deafening “CM Punk!” chants. Rollins rebrands the night as Monday Night Rollins and introduces his wife as the reigning Intercontinental Champion. The Irishwoman wasted no time, saying she’s not Punk and doesn’t talk behind people’s backs. 

Lee and Punk then make their way to the ring. The crowd explodes as they walk out in jeans and Lee’s merch. Punk leans into the chants of “AJ’s husband!” before mocking Rollins and Lynch for hogging the spotlight. He says they can’t even share a brain cell, while he was happy to let the former Divas Champion shine.

Rollins reluctantly gives Punk credit for one thing, marrying Lee, but warns that bringing her into this fight is a mistake they will regret. ‘The Black Widow’ bites back, reminding Rollins that she wouldn’t even be here if he hadn’t used Lynch as a shield. The IC champ fired back, questioning Lee’s health after a decade away and calling her a liability. 

The former Divas Champion admitted her neck is fragile but insisted she is unpredictable and dangerous, something no one can prepare for. Rollins laughs and calls Punk the predictable one, saying he always runs when things go wrong. And when Lynch destroys Lee on Saturday, maybe Punk will leave her as well. 

That crosses the line as Lee slaps Rollins. Lynch looks ready to fight but suddenly turns on ‘The Visionary’, storming out after a heated argument. Rollins lures Punk into a chase, but with him distracted, ‘The Man’ sneaks back in and plants Lee with a Manhandle Slam. She slaps Punk multiple times yet again across the face for good measure before running off to rejoin her husband, leaving Punk to tend to a fallen Lee.

Ray went on to add that Lynch has faced the very best throughout her career and consistently delivered whenever called upon. He described her as a well-oiled machine who knows exactly how to convey emotion and elevate any segment she’s part of.

And she sold fear on her face like, ‘Oh cr*p, I think I just bit off more than I can chew. Oh cr*p, this is the last woman I wanted to see right now. Oh cr*p, maybe I am going to get my a*s kicked.’ That put it over the top for me.

Ray recalled thanking The Miz for his priceless reaction during the 2015 Royal Rumble in Philadelphia. When one half of The Dudley Boyz made his surprise return, Miz’s shocked expression amplified the moment and made it feel even bigger. That, Ray explained, is the essence of professional wrestling, selling the story and helping the crowd connect with the action.
