Roman Reigns finally made his return to SummerSlam after nearly three months and attacked Solo Sikoa. Following his actions, it was announced that he would appear on the upcoming episode of SmackDown. Along with the Original Tribal Chief, his old rival AJ Styles is also set to return on the same show.
According to reports from PWInsider, AJ Styles will be making his return on the upcoming episode of SmackDown. His last appearance was at the Clash at the Castle PLE, where he lost in an “I Quit” match against the current Undisputed WWE Champion, Cody Rhodes. There had been many speculations about him leaving WWE and possibly joining TNA, but the latest reports have laid all those rumors to rest.
The Phenomenal One was embroiled in a heated rivalry with Rhodes. Styles became the first challenger for The American Nightmare’s title since he won it at WrestleMania XL against Roman Reigns. After losing in a classic match at Backlash in France, he requested another title shot, but SmackDown GM Nick Aldis denied him that opportunity.
On the May 31 episode of SmackDown, the former world champion deceived Rhodes by faking his retirement. He brutally attacked the former Stardust and earned a title opportunity, this time in an “I Quit” match. Unfortunately, Rhodes made him quit, and he ultimately failed to win the world title. Recently, the 47-year-old veteran faced Noah’s Naomichi Marufuji in a special singles match on July 13 at Destination PPV.
