In Short
  • A'ja Wilson is set to sign a historic $1.4 million supermax contract with the Las Vegas Aces following the new WNBA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • The new CBA allocates $7 million in salary cap space per team, significantly increasing player salaries across the league.
  • Charlotte Flair praised the WNBA players as 'pioneers' for achieving this landmark agreement, which will allow more players to earn substantial salaries.

A’ja Wilson has, without a doubt, been the de facto best women’s basketball player in the world, and her list of accolades will get a few more additions considering she still has several years left in her career.

Usually, such exceptional players get rewarded with the biggest contract possible, as other athletes do in their respective areas of discipline. Not the South Carolina product, though.

She was earning a mere $200,000 from her Las Vegas Aces, despite leading them to their third-ever championship and her WNBA-record fourth regular-season MVP award.

Now, that is about to change after the league and the players’ union have finally come to an agreement over the contents of the next Collective Bargaining Agreement.

After over 100 hours of negotiations led by the union’s top brass, the WNBA has agreed to allocate $7 million in salary cap space to each team. With that, the Las Vegas Aces are moving quickly to make A’ja Wilson the league’s highest-paid player.

Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson is expected to re-sign on the historic new WNBA supermax salary of $1.4 million as soon as possible, sources told the Review-Journal on Wednesday.

Las Vegas Review-Journal’s Callie Fin revealed

The ‘as soon as possible’ remark comes as the league and the union have not yet put pen to paper on this new CBA. But the information from Vegas is that the Aces have already prepared their contract and will go ahead with it once the new agreement is in place.

Charlotte Flair praises WNBA stars for getting the CBA done

This new CBA is far from what the WNBA originally offered its players, which led to open protests during the All-Star weekend, with fans even joining in to let the league know who they are supporting.

The league’s top brass did try their best to break this unity, but players stood strong and even threatened to strike if their demands were not met. However, after those 100 hours of back-and-forth negotiations, they finally came to a compromise that will bring a sea change to the league and how its players are compensated.

Pioneers.

The 14-time WWE women’s world champion labeled the current players and their representatives as ‘pioneers,’ as Flair understands this is the first time women’s basketball players will earn what they deserve.

Even though Wilson will earn the league Super Max, base salaries of $300K to average salaries of $600K will be a significant rise from the paltry salaries players used to get up until last year.

Now that the league will start sharing 20% of its revenue, those numbers will continue to rise, which is why Charlotte Flair reacted in that manner to this new revolutionary CBA.

StudBudz believes they will join A’ja Wilson as millionaires

The new Super Max salaries will start at $1.4 million for the upcoming 2026 WNBA season, which is what superstars such as A’ja Wilson will be making.

But she is already a millionaire with her endorsement deals with Nike, Wilson, and Gatorade. Now, though, other players will also be able to join her after they negotiate with their respective teams and start drawing high six figures.

What that means is that other than endorsements and salaries from other leagues, such as Unrivaled, or abroad, WNBA players will enter the millionaire spectrum sometime in their careers.

Do y’all understand the history that just happened today, bruh? We finna be millionaires, bruh. The first millionaires in our families.

StudBudz member Courtney Williams said

The Minnesota Lynx guard knows she will be in line for a major payday after becoming one of her team’s most important players. Even her fellow teammate and StudBudz co-host, Natisha Hiedeman, was ecstatic.

She remarked that this is the biggest jump in salaries in all of the professional sports, and that is why they are going to become the first millionaires in their respective families.
