In Short
  • Caitlin Clark has gained celebrity connections, including an invitation to Kansas City Chiefs games from Taylor Swift.
  • The Indiana Fever designed a graphic featuring Clark and Aliyah Boston's jerseys for Travis Kelce's mother, Donna Kelce.
  • Clark leads her USA Basketball teammates in points and assists during FIBA regional qualifiers, showcasing her strong performance after an injury hiatus.

In the last few years, Caitlin Clark has made many friends, both in the world of sports and in the celebrity space. The Indiana Fever superstar’s transcendent fame has captured everyone’s attention.

The point guard hails from Iowa, not a state that is casually associated with producing some of the most popular entities in the country.

Yet the superstar not only brought the spotlight to her state but also helped her Hawkeyes lure some of the best recruits to their women’s basketball program.

That impact does not go unnoticed, and the likes of Taylor Swift, whom Clark idolized forever, ended up inviting the Fever guard to Kansas City Chiefs games.

Since she was connecting with Travis Kelce‘s family and friends, a relationship formed where not only was the 6-foot basketball star enjoying the company of one of the best tight ends in the NFL, but she was also living her dream, becoming a celebrity invitee at Kansas City Chiefs games.

Caitlin Clark and her family have been lifelong fans of the franchise. That is why she politely declined to wear an Indianapolis Colts jersey, even though she supports the team, which is a few minutes from where she works.

Knowing that, the Fever designed a graphic featuring their star playmaker and Aliyah Boston‘s framed jerseys. They intended to get Travis Kelce’s mother, Donna Kelce, to use those two jerseys to complete her home renovation efforts.

Caitlin Clark makes her first start for Team USA

Even though both her sons are big fans and friends of Caitlin Clark, it is highly unlikely that Donna Kelce will place a framed jersey of the Indiana Fever superstar on her walls, despite the best efforts of the franchise’s design team.

But what they can do is continue to work on adding Clark’s graphics and videos to Fever’s official social media pages. In her fourth game for USA Basketball, stand-in head coach Nate Tibbetts made the point guard start her first game for the national team.

After a stellar debut and a bad Game Two, the Iowa native returned to produce a good performance in Game Three against Italy. That may have prompted Tibbetts to give Clark her first national team start.

Surprisingly, he also kept the team’s best point guard, Chelsea Gray, in the starting lineup. As Team USA is still experimenting with their lineups and rotations, this was another example of their efforts to see how both Clark and Gray perform off the ball.

Even though that experiment was short, Caitlin Clark got the ball rolling and ended up helping her teammates secure another blowout win over New Zealand. In 23 minutes, the 24-year-old scored 14 points, while also dishing out six assists.

Caitlin Clark leads all USA Basketball teammates

Those numbers should give Caitlin Clark enough excitement to continue her basketball journey, as last year, injuries left her disappointed and heartbroken.

After these four games, the Fever star leads all her USA Basketball teammates in points, assists, and +/- efficiency. Those are impressive statistics for someone who has not played basketball in eight months.

Some could argue that the level of competition at these FIBA regional qualifiers is not something to weigh those statistics with. However, for someone who has not played with any of her USA Basketball teammates previously, those numbers are a good indication.

Team USA will face its strongest opponent in its final game of these qualifiers. Spain features Las Vegas Aces and former Iowa Hawkeyes forward/center Megan Gustafson, former WNBA star Maria Conde, and a couple of young players who should be some of the top draft picks this year.

That game should give USA Basketball’s coaches, executives, and fans an idea of how good this edition of the national team is. That is because when they travel to Berlin in September, they will face the best teams from across the world.
