The Las Vegas Aces were hotly tipped to win three straight WNBA titles. That, however, hit a bump as A’ja Wilson, Kelsey Plum, and teammates struggled to finish in a favorable playoff position. That brought them into a face-off against the New York Liberty in the second round. With her team down 0-2, head coach Becky Hammon knows how tough the battle will be.

The Las Vegas Aces got off to a hot start in the first quarter of Game 2. But then, New York Liberty went on a run and swung the lead around. The Aces kept pace with them until the fourth quarter but were unable to regain the lead. At this point, Becky Hammon was not happy and called a timeout. Once her players took the bench, she was seen yelling a lot to her players, especially Kesley Plum.

All that yelling, however, did not help as the league-leading Liberty kept their nerve to win the game. Now the Las Vegas Aces find themselves in a 0-2 hole. With the next two games taking place at their home in Las Vegas, A’ja Wilson and her teammates will have to win both to have a chance in the series decider back in New York.

Hammon wanted to win Game 2 as they would then have had a fighting chance in their own battleground. Now, they find themselves on the back foot against the best team in the league. The basketball Hall of Famer knows all too well that even if they force a Game 5, it will be difficult with the hostile New York crowd in full swing.

Becky Hammon calls out Kelsey Plum and A’ja Wilson

In the post-game press conference, a reporter asked Becky Hammon about the difference between her team in the last two seasons and now. With her forehead clenched to show her fury, she said that her players were distracted and that ‘three-peating’ was going to be difficult.

Hammon stated that her team does not feel like they are ready for another championship. With all the distractions, she believes they have lost focus.

We haven’t had the edge. This is why three-peating is hard. The whole league has been pissed off for 8 months and my players are in commercials, this and that, being celebrities…and you get distracted. That’s why it’s hard. In two years, we’ve won here one time. Other than that, they’ve kicked our a**.

While Hammon did not take names, it was easy to figure out who she was talking about. The Aces player with the most commercials and a huge fan following is A’ja Wilson, with Kelsey Plum right behind her. The others are nowhere near these two when it comes to having those ‘distractions.’
