Las Vegas Aces star Kelsey Plum had a face off against superfan Spike Lee during WNBA playoffs game against the New York Liberty.
Spike Lee and Las Vegas Aces star Kelsey Plum jawed in the WNBA playoffs
The WNBA playoffs have entered round two, where the top four teams in the league continue their battle to win it all. One of those battles is between the finalists from last season. With the first games at home, the New York Liberty packed their arena as they took on the Las Vegas Aces. The battle between A’ja Wilson, Breanna Stewart, Kelsey Plum, and Sabrina Ionescu, was a sight to behold. It is something New York Knicks superfan Spike Lee enjoyed throughout.
In the third quarter with the Liberty leading by double digits, Kelsey Plum walked towards the sideline to take her position. But as she walked towards it, she is seen mouthing something to the award-winning director. They continue exchanging words as Lee gets up from his seat to continue the argument. It seems he was resorting to the same trash talking antics he does towards opponents. As a true New Yorker, it did not matter if it was the Knicks or the Liberty. If his trash talk helped the New York Liberty to win, so be it.
The argument went on until the play resumed. All that time, the official standing beside did not react to it. It indicates that their choice of words was kept within PG levels. But it goes to show how passionate Spike Lee is. He won’t hesitate to dish some trash talk out to anyone even if he dapped up Kelsey Plum prior to the start of the game.

Kelsey Plum also is as competitive as one can get. Nicknamed ‘Plum Dawg’ for her attitude on court, she also did not bother about the dap up and did not stop herself from continuing to jaw at the director. In the end, Spike Lee got the last laugh as the New York Liberty won game 1 convincingly.
Kelsey Plum and Las Vegas Aces lose game 1 against Liberty
In last season’s WNBA finals, the New York Liberty were a team battling fatigue. With three of their starters playing abroad before the season started, their fatigue became apparent towards the end. It was so apparent that the Las Vegas Aces won their second straight WNBA title despite having two of their starters injured.
But this time, the Liberty ensured nothing stands in their way. They ended up winning three out of the four quarters to win comfortably. Their incredibly elite play almost caused the Aces an embarrassment. Breanna Stewart looked sprightly as she racked up 34 points to lead all scorers. On the other hand, unanimous MVP A’ja Wilson could only muster up 21 points.
The battle between the two Team USA leaders defined the game to the extent that Kelsey Plum’s team-leading 24 points was not enough to matter. She and her teammates will try to win the next one. However, she might have to face off against Spike Lee again.
