In Short
  • A'ja Wilson scored a game-high 45 points, becoming the only player in WNBA history with multiple 45-point games.
  • She recorded her fifth game with 40 or more points, setting a new WNBA record for most such games.
  • Wilson shot 83.3% from the field, making both three-pointers and going 13 for 13 from the free throw line.

A’ja Wilson is back to what she does best. Following a historic 2025 WNBA campaign, she is back to terrorizing opposition defenses this year. After a humiliating loss in their opening game of the season, the Las Vegas Aces have bounced back strongly since.

They put in another impressive performance on Friday night, dominating the Connecticut Sun from start to finish. In the end, the Aces secured a 101-94 victory over the Sun. It was their third win in a row as they climbed to the top of the Western Conference standings with a 3-1 record. Meanwhile, the Sun sit at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings with no wins in their first four games.

The biggest highlight of the game was Wilson. The Aces center came all guns blazing from tip-off and ended her night with a game-high 45 points. In just her fourth game of the season, she entered the history books once again.

Her offensive game was a sight to behold. Her 45-point performance saw her become the only player in WNBA history to have multiple 45-point games.

The last year has been eventful for A’ja Wilson. Last year, she became the only player in the WNBA or NBA to ever win the championship, scoring title, MVP, Defensive Player of the Year, and Finals MVP in the same season.

To add to her list of accolades last year, she also bagged the largest contract in league history in the offseason. Off the court, she took her talents to the movie industry as she joined the ensemble voice cast of the animated sports-comedy movie titled “GOAT”, which was co-produced by Stephen Curry.

After everything she has achieved in the last 12 months, she has returned to court this year wanting more. She is averaging 26.3 points in the four games she has played so far.

A’ja Wilson had her WNBA-record 5th game with 40 or more points

While she recorded her record-breaking second 45-point game, it was also her fifth game of scoring 40 points or more in a game. She now holds the WNBA record for most games with 40 or more points.

However, what made Wilson’s performance so special was her efficiency against the Sun. She missed just three of her 18 field goal attempts as she shot at a staggering 83.3% from the field. She made both of her three-pointers and went 13 out of 13 from the free-throw line. She also became the only player in WNBA history to score 45+ points on 80% FG.

Her fifth 40-point game saw her overtake Breanna Stewart and Diana Taurasi, who had done it four times. Wilson was not able to beat her career-high. She scored 53 points against the Atlanta Dream in 2023. With how things are going at the moment, it would not be a surprise if she ends up crossing her highest score this season.

Bam Adebayo was in attendance for A’ja Wilson’s historic night

A’ja Wilson would have felt a lot happier to put in such a historic performance in front of her boyfriend, Bam Adebayo. The Miami Heat center made an appearance and was seen courtside supporting the three-time WNBA champion.

Adebayo knows a thing or two about breaking scoring records. In March, Adebayo scored 83 points against the Washington Wizards and became the second-highest scorer in NBA history. Wilson was present for Adebayo’s record-breaking scoring night.

It is a huge moment for the couple as they have been able to share their personal milestones in the presence of each other. Adebayo will be expected to be seen court-side a lot more over the next few months as the Heat failed to make it to the playoffs after they were eliminated in the Play-In Tournament.

Wilson and the Aces will face the Atlanta Dream in their second game of back-to-back. It is a big clash as both teams are currently at the top of their respective Conference standings.
