Chelsea extended their unbeaten run under Thomas Tuchel to 12 matches but had to settle in for a point at Elland Road in the Premier League against Leeds United. The blues had the chance of leapfrogging over Leicester City and book the third place.

Alan Shearer speaks on Kai Havertz’s performance against Leeds United

Former Newcastle United player Alan Shearer says that Chelsea played beautifully and got into good positions but weren’t clinical enough with the opportunities that they received. Thomas Tuchel decided to play Kai Havertz at the striker position ahead of Timo Werner and Olivier Giroud.

However this move didn’t pay dividends as Kai Havertz was relatively very poor and spilled some great chances. One of the major ones came just at the start of the second half wherein he blasted the ball over goalkeeper Meslier.

Shearer believes that Kai Havertz can become a much better player if he is able to convert the opportunities. Havertz came to Chelsea from German club Bayer Leverkusen in the summer transfer window. Up until now he has 2 goals and 1 assist in 21 premier league matches.

“I thought Chelsea played really well, they got into some excellent positions, but they just weren’t clinical enough,” he said on Match of the Day. Tuchel said there about him (Havertz) getting forward and making runs into the box, he didn’t quite do that, certainly in the first-half, because if he had had, he’d have two or three tap-ins.

Yes, they played well, yes, they got into positions but they certainly weren’t clinical enough.
“If he is going to play in that position that the manager wants him to, then he’s got to get into better positions.”
