Last Sunday’s race at Bristol marked the Cup Series return of Alex Bowman, after sitting out four races. He was diagnosed with vertigo, after retiring from the COTA Cup Series race mid-event due to dizziness and was forced to take rest to recover.
It was a scary moment for the driver that was already having a bad season. The No:48 Chevy driver shared his thoughts on the moment and admitted that he was really concerned about a potential incident happening to himself or rivals, if he has raced longer at COTA.
I’ve raced through a lot of injuries, but that was one (at COTA) where I was going to end up running into something or somebody and the smart thing to do in that case was to get out (of the car).
Alex Bowman told media ahead of Bristol race.
In a separate conversation, the veteran talked about the massive support he received from Hendrick Motorsports over the years, especially during recovery. Rick Hendrick made significant investment into Alex Bowman recovery, and he is determined to give back to the team for the years of support.
The boss flew me around to different places that I needed to be, and all the things that we needed to do to get me the best help that we could get, and now I’m feeling really good. I’m thankful to be back feeling well. Thankful that I get another shot at it…I’ve put HMS in a tough spot multiple times now in the last five years. They’ve probably given me more grace at times than I deserved. So, I’m super thankful for that.

Alex Bowman had a frustrating day on his Cup return
The comeback didn’t go as planned for the veteran driver. He was involved in an early race wreck and was immediately sent to the infield care centre. Fortunately, there wasn’t any concerning issues. Talking about the disappointing end to the day he admitted that he struggled to handle the can and overall the day was frustrating.

Yeah, I was fine. Just a frustrating day… Really struggled with our Ally 48 Chevy. Just really struggled with the handling today.
Alex Bowman said post-race.
Further talking about the point, he admitted that he feels really bad about missing out on the opportunity to get the No:48 Chevy after the wreck. The team has also switched their focus to next weeks’ race at Kansas and is determined to work hard.
Bummer. Hate that we didn’t get a chance to work on that, make it better, and finish the race… Move on to Kansas. Another should be a good race track for us. This one should’ve too.
Alex Bowman added.
Kansas has always been a good track for Alex Bowman and this might be the perfect race for him to make a comeback. It would be interesting to see how everything is going to playout for the star racer and Hendrick Motorsports in the coming years.
