Alex de Minaur has warned Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz that he’s working on two areas of his game to challenge them. Sinner and Alcaraz are dominating so much on the tour that no player other than them has won Grand Slam titles since 2024.

The number of titles that they have combined lifted since the 2024 season is 26 from 35 finals. While Sinner finished the 2024 season as No.1 with the most titles (eight from nine finals), Alcaraz clinched the most this year – eight titles from 11 finals, and also finished the season as No.1.

The ultimate goals in men’s tennis are to try to reach those two players now. They have been dominating the sport for the last couple of years. I am in pre-season now, and I’m just getting ready. We have certain areas that are quite technical that I want to work on and improve. The serve is always a work in progress. That is something I would put a lot of hours into.

Alex de Minaur said on Greg Rusedski’s Off Court with Greg podcast.

De Minaur has met Sinner 13 times, losing all. Against the six-time Grand Slam champion as well, the Aussie has yet to win a match, losing the five matches he played against him.

I am also looking to put a bit of speed on my average rally ball. We are seeing with Carlos and Jannik that their average rally ball speed is extremely high, so we are working to get to that. We probably have one session in the morning, which is drills with another player, and then you go back out and try to work on tweaks with your coach.

Alex de Minaur added

De Minaur reached two finals this year. After losing the Rotterdam Open to Alcaraz, he ended his title drought by going past Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the Citi Open final.

Jannik Sinner practices with Simona Halep

Fans found it surprising upon seeing a clip of Jannik Sinner sharing the court with none other than Simona Halep. Sinner’s coach Darren Cahill, who also worked with Halep, shared the clip on his Instagram story.

Halep was one of those who questioned the anti-doping bodies’ decisions during Sinner’s doping scandal. The two-time Grand Slam champion had to fight a lot with the anti-doping bodies because of her own doping case.

She tested positive for roxadustat and was initially handed a four-year ban by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA). But Halep appealed before the Court of Arbitration of Sport (CAS) and the ban was reduced to nine months.

Halep returned to the tour at the 2024 Miami Open only to suffer defeat at the hands of Paula Badosa. She played two more WTA events, calling time on her career at the Transylvania Open after losing her opening round match.

Sinner, on the other hand, tested positive for clostebol in March last year. But he did not receive a harsh punishment from the anti-doping bodies, and this sparked massive controversy. Many from the tennis world thought Sinner received preferential treatment because of his high-profile status.

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) chose to challenge ITIA and decided to give Sinner a ban of one to two years, but this year, WADA and Sinner’s legal team reached a settlement agreement according to which the 24-year-old received just a three-month ban. The ban did not force him to miss any Grand Slam event as it started after he defended his Australian Open Crown by defeating Alexander Zverev. He made his return to the tour at the Italian Open only to suffer a straight-set defeat in the final against Carlos Alcaraz.
