Alex Pereira is undoubtedly one of most popular MMA fighters in the world. The UFC light heavyweight champion is a fan favorite due to his violent fighting style and stone-cold personality. Apart from being a knockout monster inside the octagon, the Brazilian has a big and wholesome heart.
Last year, Pereira shared a video of meeting a cancer-stricken fan at Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, Australia. The footage went viral as the UFC superstar became emotional while shaving the head of the young cancer patient. Now, after a year, Pereira reunited with the fan, who has successfully beaten cancer.
About a year ago or so, I came to Australia. I cut his hair at the Institute of Cancer here in Australia. It was something very emotional, very heavy for me, I cried, I got emotional. To see this guy’s recovery. He was training in Muay Thai. He had to stop because of the cancer and now he’s fought against cancer, he beat cancer. A big inspiration. This is what you call fighting.

‘Poatan’ was visibly emotional and proud at the same time while meeting with the fan. The video has since gone viral on the internet catching the attention of many fight fans. As expected, the fans were also emotional after experiencing such a wholesome story.

Before becoming a global combat sports athlete, Pereira started his career by working in a tire shop. The fighter has not forgotten his humble beginnings and recently visited his favela to return the favor. Given his popularity, fans are desperate to see him again inside the octagon in 2025.
