Israel Adesanya had established himself as a top UFC fighter well before his loss to Alex Pereira at UFC 281. He had held a UFC title for over three years and had many impressive victories along the way.
Pereira had become a significant rival to Israel Adesanya, with a history that extended beyond their UFC matchup. A victory over Alex Pereira at UFC 281 would have provided a satisfying conclusion to their story. However, Adesanya’s TKO loss to Pereira may have been what he needed to take his stardom to the next level. Pereira had become Adesanya’s nemesis, and defeating him in a dramatic knockout victory at UFC 287.
Adesanya’s win over Pereira was significant for many reasons, including his emotional post-fight speech. Although Adesanya would have preferred not to have suffered three previous losses to Pereira, the way things played out allowed him to elevate his star power and create a compelling narrative for his career. But there was one thing that was also bothering the Champ.
After winning the fight Israel not just taunted Pereira but also didn’t forget his son. Israel Adesanya also took revenge on Alex Pereira’s son as he mocked him in the past Glory of Heroes kickboxing match.
Where it all started Between Alex Pereira’s son and Israel Adesanya
Alex Pereira has defeated Israel Adesanya twice in kickboxing matches. The two fighters faced each other in the Chinese kickboxing promotion, Glory of Heroes, in 2016 and 2017. In their first fight, Pereira narrowly defeated Adesanya by decision in a closely contested battle. In their second encounter, Pereira scored a knockout victory over Adesanya with a left hook in the third round.
Alex Pereira Son imitated Adesanya by lying down on his back while the winner of the fight was being announced. He then stood up and stared at Adesanya, who was still on the ground, defeated. The child’s actions appeared to be mocking Adesanya’s defeat.
Then a video of Pereira’s knockout victory over Adesanya has gone viral online. While many MMA fans have already seen the clip, some observant viewers noticed that a child, possibly Pereira’s son, was present and appeared to be taunting Adesanya after the match.
Israel Adesanya Explained why he mocked Alex Pereira’s Son
“I’m petty. I remember. The first time he knocked me out in Brazil, his son came into the ring and then just started to lie dead next to me. I’m like, ‘You f****** little a******, I’ll whoop your ass if your dad don’t do it for you.’ I looked for his kid, I pointed at him, and I saw him and I was like, ‘Hey, hey, hey,’ just to remind him.”
Adesanya admitted that he can be petty at times. He recalled a time when Pereira knocked him out in Brazil and Pereira’s son entered the ring and pretended to be dead next to him. Israel Adesanya said he was angry and he was like he would beat him up if his father didn’t do it for him.
“I saw backstage. We’re cool. He’s a great champion, he’s a warrior. His story, I mean that, I’m the antagonist of his story. He’s a f****** beast, coming from where he’s come from. The adversities he’s been through in his life to get to where he’s gotten now, and taking me out the way he has, it’s a f****** beautiful story for him. But like I said, tonight it’s not about his story, it’s about my story, which is history.” Via. Post-fight Press conference.
Although Adesanya and Pereira are rivals, they have respect for each other. Pereira is a great champion and warrior with an inspiring story. Adesanya acknowledges that he is the antagonist in Pereira’s story, but he has respect for Pereira’s journey to become a successful fighter. Despite this, Adesanya is focused on his own story and making history.
