Alexander Zverev has revealed that Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are ahead of the rest of the players in the women’s circuit. The World No.3 has not been able to beat the duo this season and has had to struggle in their shadows on tour this season, particularly in Grand Slam tournaments.

Zverev met Sinner at the Australian Open final in January and was expected to give a good fight on the court, but the World No.2 breezed past him in straight sets to win the Melbourne major for the second time. He then faced Alcaraz at the Cincinnati Open semi-finals, where the Spaniard defeated him in straight sets.

For the past two seasons, Alcaraz and Sinner have dominated the ATP Tour, winning all the past eight Grand Slams. They have also met each other in three consecutive major finals, including the US Open final in New York. Besides that, they met each other in the final of the last five tournaments both competed in.

Alcaraz leads Sinner 10-5 in their head-to-head record, and 4-1 this season. They met for the first time in a Grand Slam final at the French Open, where Alcaraz produced a comeback to beat the Italian star. Sinner got his revenge at the Wimbledon Championships weeks later, before Alcaraz won the final Grand Slam of the season in New York.

During Team Europe’s press conference at the Laver Cup, Zverev was asked about the rivalry between Sinner and Alcaraz. The German revealed that the duo showcased a superb display at the French Open and that they are way ahead of the rest of the players in the ATP Tour:

Obviously, we have had great champions in the past 15 years facing each other, and the Big 3 gave us unforgettable matches, but the style of play these two showcased in Paris was something I had never seen before. Both are ahead of the others, clearly, and our obligation is to work hard to try to reach their level. This year, no one has succeeded. Hopefully, someone will achieve it next season.

Alcaraz and Sinner played the longest final in the French Open’s history in June. The match finished in five hours and 29 minutes. Sinner was up two sets in the tie and was meant to serve the match in the fourth set, but allowed Alcaraz to rally to the finishing line in a thrilling five-set match.

Alexander Zverev complains about the hectic schedule on tour as the season draws closer to an end

One of the major recurring discussions on tour this season has been the hectic schedule of the ATP and WTA. Players have expressed their concerns that they aren’t getting enough rest after a tournament and that they spend more days competing in most of the 1000-level tournaments. But the discussion has now drifted to more rest for players after the end of the season.

The season is scheduled to end in November with the ATP Finals, but the 2026 season will kick off towards the end of December. Alexander Zverev revealed during the aforementioned press conference that players need to have a good preseason before next season begins:

Personally, I have always believed that tennis players deserve and need a real preseason where we can train and prepare in all aspects of the game, as well as some time off beforehand to relax. With this calendar, we can’t even have two weeks off. The schedule is too dense and intense. We finish with the ATP Finals and start with a Grand Slam, it can’t be like this.

Carlos Alcaraz and Iga Swiatek are also among the players who have spoken about the length of the schedule. However, Novak Djokovic recently slammed the top players for not taking the issue seriously when it matters, as only complaining publicly won’t help to bring solutions.
