Alexander Zverev started the 2025 season in high spirits, being the second best player in the world behind Jannik Sinner. However, the German declined in his play and results since the Australian Open final.
After another setback in the ATP Finals, the German took to the press conference to explain his disappointment. The two-time ATP Finals champion considered the 2025 season as ‘unsatisfying’. Zverev said in his post-match press conference:
It’s been an incredibly unsatisfying season, it’s been far too long, with too many ups and downs. For me, there weren’t many highlights, at most the Australian Open final, in addition to the title in Munich. As for everything else, it left me very dissatisfied, that’s all.
Zverev is statistically the best player in the world outside of Carlos Alcaraz and Sinner. However, his third-placed ranking is distant from both the tennis titans.
Zverev finished as the finalist at the Australian Open. However, early exits at the last three Grand Slams halted his season. Moreover, he couldn’t defend either of the Masters 1000 crowns he won in 2024 at the Italian Open and Paris Masters.
Alexander Zverev sets aims for 2026 after a disappointing 2025
German tennis star Alexander Zverev has finished a disappointing 2025 season by his standards. In order to finally break his Grand Slam curse, the German has set his priorities for an improved 2026. He said in his post-match press conference:
Staying fit is my top priority, number one for me; that’s the only way to start building. It’s as simple as that. Although I think I was building quite well over the last month, I felt my level was improving, but today I wasn’t anywhere near what I’d shown this past month. Now I’ll play the Davis Cup and then I’ll take some time off, where I can think calmly. Right now, this defeat is a disappointment, not just because of the loss itself, but because of the lack of performance I showed. That’s the most disappointing thing.

First and foremost, his 2025 season is not over yet. He will represent Germany in the upcoming Davis Cup finals. His chances of winning a major tournament has increased because of Jannik Sinner‘s withdrawal from the Davis Cup.
Sinner has got the better of Zverev in the last three tournaments they have played (Vienna, Paris and the ATP Finals). After that, he will regroup to reclaim the heights that he had only 12 months ago.
Felix Auger-Aliassime knocks out Alexander Zverev from the ATP Finals
Felix Auger-Aliassime has reached the ATP Finals semi-finals for the first time in his career. The Canadian earned the spot after a strong win over Alexander Zverev in Turin, taking the match 6-4, 7-6(4).

The 25-year-old entered the event as the eighth seed and finished second in the Bjorn Borg Group with a 2-1 record. His next opponent will be world No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz in Saturday’s semifinal.
Against Zverev, Auger-Aliassime broke serve in the last game of the first set to take control. Zverev had four break chances but could not convert any of them. The second set was tighter, but Zverev’s 18 unforced errors made the difference. His frustration showed as he repeatedly looked toward his team during the match.
