Alexander Zverev lifts 2 consecutive titles in Germany after a tough year full of losses
After a year-long dry spell, Alexander Zverev has succeeded in lifting back-to-back titles in Germany, where the young lad belongs to. The 23-year-old defeated Diego Schwartzman 6-2, 6-1.
Sascha seems to have his mojo back as he breezed through these past two weeks at the Bett1Hulks Indoors and Bett1Hulks Championships. His win at the Bett1Hulks Indoors was of a significant stature as it was his first title since 2018.
Zverev was a game away from the U.S Open 2020 title, but lost out to Dominic Thiem. This championship which he failed to serve out for, seemed to haunt Zverev even after its conclusion. As a result, Sascha did not seem in the right head-space.
Alas, he has made a comeback and has lifted 2 consecutive titles and proved many who doubted the young lad, wrong.

Zverev’s past results and the importance of these wins
Alexander Zverev was the first of the Next-Gen to make his way up the ranks. In 2017, the German became the World No.3 and collected 5 titles from just 6 finals. Moreover, he remained a fixture in the TOP-5 throughout 2018. However, his results at the ATP 500 and Masters 1000 events weren’t paralleled by his results at the Grand Slams. Inspite of this, he went on to win the ATP finals in London after defeating Novak Djokovic in the finals and Roger Federer in the semis.
The youngster started to struggle in 2019 in other tournaments as well. In the same vein, he didn’t pick up a single title that year, but was the runner up at the Shanghai Masters.
This year Zverev made the breakthrough most had written off from ever happening. He reached the semi-finals at the Australian Open and the finals at the U.S Open. This is particularly significant for Zverev. Since, he had failed to advance past the 4th round at any Grand Slam event apart from French Open. Even there, he was ousted in the quarter-finals consecutively.
As of today, Zverev has proved that sky is the limit. He has now established himself in every event there is. Additionally, he has defeated the likes of some of the greatest players of all time while he was at it.
