Alexander Zverev doesn’t break rackets anymore. He wants to maintain his cool in tense situations instead of letting out his frustrations by smashing the rackets. Maybe that’s why, when he was about to shatter the racket during his semifinal match against Jannik Sinner, he decided not to do the same.
Zverev, who was leading 4-1 in his head-to-head meeting with Sinner before the semifinals, failed to go past the Italian as they played a thrilling match that lasted for more than three hours. The German registered his first defeat against Sinner after winning four consecutive matches in their previous encounters, with a scoreline of 7-6(9), 5-7, 7-6(4).
Apart from the match, another thing that caught the attention of the fans was how Zverev controlled himself from breaking the racket. This happened in the second set when his unforced error forced him to almost destroy the racket, but he slowly placed it on the court. He made another unforced error in the same game and this time, he threw away the racket.

During the French Open this year, Zverev, after securing a hard-fought battle against Tallon Griekspoor in five sets, talked about his mentality. As he wants to be a role model for kids, he doesn’t want to lose his cool.
I think it comes maybe with age. It comes with maturity. Also, I told myself I want to become a different type of player and a different type of role model as well in a way. I don’t break rackets anymore. I barely get warnings.Alexander Zverev said after the match
Zverev was slammed for his comments, as fans hadn’t forgotten the domestic violence charges against him by his former girlfriend. Fans specifically censured him for his ‘being a role model to kids’ comment.
Fans criticize Alexander Zverev for his racket antics during Cincinnati Open semifinals
When fans noticed Alexander Zverev being so ‘careful’ with his racket, they wondered why Zverev was treating an object with so much care than his two ex-partners. As mentioned before, Zverev has been accused of domestic violence by two of his ex-girlfriends, and the racket incident gave the fans another chance to condemn the German.

When a player feels like smashing the racket on court, they should just give it to some kid or a fan in the crowd. They're obviously not going to be able to use it anyway, should just give it away to someone who would always keep it as a souvenir. But it's easier said than done.

Before the Cincinnati Open, he played in the Canadian Open, and there, too, he failed to reach the final after his quarterfinal defeat. Zverev’s next target is the US Open, the main draw of which gets underway on August 26th. The 27-year-old is yet to win a Grand Slam title.
