Alexander Zverev‘s Paris Olympics dream ended with a quarterfinal loss to Lorenzo Musetti. After the defeat, the German revealed what had restricted him from giving his all at the Olympics.
Zverev was the defending champion at the Games. He had won gold back in the Tokyo Olympics and returned to defend his title. He got placed in the top half of the draw and ran through Jaume Munar, Tomas Machac, and Alexei Popyrin to secure a place in the quarterfinal round.
He was up against Lorenzo Musetti for a place in the semi-final but struggled to put him off. After losing the first set, Zverev pushed with all he had but struggled to find more strength to fight. Eventually, he lost the second set and the match with it 5-7, 5-7.
After the loss, Zverev revealed that he had been suffering from a few health issues since his time in Hamburg. The German ace played the Hamburg Open before the Olympics but lost in the finals there. The same weakness persisted in Paris as well, which restricted Zverev from playing his best tennis.
While speaking to a German Outlet Bild, Zverev admitted that he had felt the weakness since Hamburg and did not have proper training in Paris due to the illness. Moreover, it was not his sugar level because he had the sensation of dizziness while playing matches.
It's time to see what's happening and get back to the best form I had a few weeks ago. If there is a problem with your sugar level, you feel that you are going slower and you don't feel like exercising. Here I feel dizzy and I see four balls coming towards me. I feel like I can't do anything anymore,Alexander Zverev said
Alexander Zverev returns to action despite weakness concerns
World No.4 Alexander Zverev is set to compete at the Montreal Open from August 7 despite showing health concerns at the Paris Olympics. Since his German Open run, Zverev has opened up about a few health concerns that cost him a title at the Olympics.
Zverev’s participation in the Canadian Open was in doubt as he continued to feel unwell. The German, seeded No. 2, was set to play in the Round of 32 after receiving a first-round bye. However, there has been no further news from him, and he is most likely to compete in the Masters 1000.
If participating, Zverev will be up against some fierce competitors. Almost all the other Top 10 members are participating in the tournament except Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, and Alex de Minaur. Despite this, Zverev has to deal with the pressure of Jannik Sinner and Daniil Medvedev to try to win the Masters event.
