Arthur Fils and Alexander Zverev found themselves in a complicated situation during their match in Hamburg. They argued about the German crowd cheering for every mistake Fils made towards the end of the match. The Frenchman then went on to win the match 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(1).

After the duel, things seemed to have calmed down and the two players had seemingly put aside their differences as fast as they had come. Alexander Zverev has been finding himself in many such incidents but has made up with his fellow competitors soon after engaging in fights, as he did today.

Zverev and Fils were given bottles of Champagne today to complement their trophies and the former wasted no time in popping the cork off his and showering the latter with the drink. Fils was then seen drinking what was left in the bottle and there seemed to be no signs of an intense argument just a few minutes prior to the presentation ceremony.

Arthur Fils ends Alexander Zverev’s title defense dreams as he secures Hamburg title

Last year, Alexander Zverev became the first home player to win the Hamburg Open in thirty years. He was on track to defend it and had dropped just one set in the matches leading up to the final.

However, Arthur Fils crushed his hopes of title defense with his unwavering nerves. He closed the match in a final set tiebreak.

In doing so, the 20-year-old became the second youngest champion at the ATP 500 event in Germany. He is only behind Russia’s Andrei Medvedev, who won the tournament in 1994 at the age of 19.
