Alexei Popyrin revealed a special motivation that drove him to win the biggest title of his career in Montreal. Despite being the underdog, he made history by winning his maiden Masters 1000 title.
The likes of Jannik Sinner, Stefanos Tsitsipas, and Daniil Medvedev, among others, failed to make their mark at the Canadian Open as Andrey Rublev and Popyrin fought hard to reach the final. The Australian had to beat players Ben Shelton, Hubert Hurkacz, Sebastian Korda, and others to reach the summit clash.
Against Rublev, Popyrin played some of his best tennis as he sealed the match 6-2,6-4 to win his first Masters 1000 title. In a recent interview, the 25-year-old revealed that the tournament provides a private jet for the finalists to directly fly to Cincinnati, which proved to be a motivational factor behind his performances.
I was told at the quarterfinals by my coach that if you make the finals, the tournament provides a private jet to Cincinnati. Just before the semis, we were like, let’s go out and get that private jet. I've never been on a private jet before in my life so it will be a first for meAlexei Popyrin said via ATP media

With the win, Popyrin got the chance to fly on a private jet straight to Cincinnati. He arrived just in time to even get into a practice session with Rublev.
Alexei Popyrin creates history with Canadian Open title win
With his big break at the Canadian Open, Alexei Popyrin became the first Australian to win a Masters 1000 title in 21 years. The last player from Down Under to do it was Lleyton Hewitt, who won the Indian Wells in 2003.
Popyrin is just the fourth player from his country to win a title at this level. He also became the only Australian to win the Canadian Open.
The 25-year-old will next take part in the Cincinnati Open, where he will have a lot more eyes following his progress after his Montreal heroics. He begins his campaign with a Round of 64 clash with Gael Monfils on Wednesday, August 14.
