Wheelchair tennis player Alfie Hewett is a Grand Slam legend. At 26, he has won 30 majors, nine in singles and 21 in doubles with partner Gordon Reid.
The Brit has also won the gold medal in doubles at the Paralympic Games in Paris this year and has taken home the silver medal in singles this year and in 2016. His next big goal is to win the gold medal in singles and for the same.
Hewett is taking inspiration from Novak Djokovic‘s gold-winning Paris Olympics campaign. He said that he was also motivated by the Serbian’s arch-rivals Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.
I take a lot of inspiration from Novak. I watched all of it because maybe I can relate to it as my next big ambition is to get a gold medal in singles. That’s three years down the line, so I won’t worry about it for now, but to see him achieve that was amazing. His perseverance and his attitude to his tennis are incredible and that’s obviously the case for Federer and Nadal as well.

18-year-old Tokito Oda is challenging Hewett to raise his level. It was the Japanese who stopped him from completing the Career Golden Slam by beating him in the final at the Paralympic Games this year.
Alfie Hewett lauds Jannik Sinner’s mindset
Jannik Sinner is the most successful player in men’s tennis this season, having lifted eight titles, including the Australian Open and US Open. Apart from these titles, he also defended the Davis Cup title with Italy and even won $6 million at Six Kings Slam, an exhibition event held in Riyadh.

But it’s his ability to perform during crucial moments that has inspired Alfie Hewett as he revealed how during the off-season, he watched the ATP Finals in Turin, where Sinner won the title for the first time.
Tennis is all about mindsets and as we are seeing with Jannik Sinner now, he is so good on crucial points in matches. I look at that and think it’s something I could work on.

This season, Hewett has won three doubles Majors and lifted his first singles title at Wimbledon. The only Grand Slam title he and partner Gordon Reid couldn’t win this season was the US Open.
