It was a difficult day at Arena Birmingham for the All England open amidst much controversy around the withdrawal of the Indonesian team due to a person on their flight having tested positive for COVID-19. The event however went on as scheduled on day 2. The women’s singles lineups had some amazing matches.

PV Sindhu is now back in form as she makes a quarterfinal appearance at the All England Open. She put up an extremely dominant and commanding game against Line Christophersen of Denmark. Line had no answers to Sindhu in the first game. The second game too had the Dane with no answers as Sindhu wrapped up the game in her favour 21-8, 21-8 in just 25 minutes.

She will now face Akane Yamaguchi in the quarterfinals.

Akane Yamaguchi was handed a walkover by Neslihan Yigit who tested positive for the Virus.

Ratchanok Intanon comfortably edged past Iris Wang of USA 21-14, 21-13.

Mia Blichfeldt from Denmark sailed to the quarterfinals after beating Yvonne Li of Germany with a strong performance 21-16, 21-17.

Busanan Ongbumrungphan of Thailand fought it hard against Aya Ohori of Japan in 48 minutes 21-19, 21-15.

Nozomi Okuhara registered a comfortable win and a berth in the last eight after she pulled off a victory against Linda Zetchiri 21-6, 21-13 in just 28 minutes.

Pornpawee Chochuwong beat her teammate Phittayaporn Chaiwan in straight games 21-17, 21-11.

Beiwen Zhang of USA had an amazing game with much grit and determination as she thumped Supanida Katethong of Thailand. Zhang came back from a game down which was dominated by the Thai 21-7. She fought back very strongly to win the match 7-21, 21-13, 21-9.
