Another Grand Slam run of Novak Djokovic was ended by Jannik Sinner. In the Wimbledon semifinal, the Italian downed the Serbian legend 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 to inch closer toward his second back-to-back title in the tournament.
Sinner, who has now improved his head-to-head record over Djokovic to 7-5, will be facing Alexander Zverev in the final, scheduled to be held on Sunday (July 12). While Sinner is bidding to defend his title, Sascha, who made the Wimbledon final for the first time, is also chasing his career’s first title on grass.
Sinner holds a 10-4 head-to-head lead over the reigning French Open champion and has defeated him in their last nine meetings, including four times this year. Zverev, in his semifinal match, ended home favorite Arthur Fery‘s run in straight sets.
Before this season, the 29-year-old had never featured in the quarterfinals of the grass-court Major. He will be playing his career’s fourth final on grass.
During the Djokovic-Sinner clash, Andre Agassi, the former eight-time Grand Slam champion, also started trending. BBC viewers were left divided over his commentary of the match.
Fans call out the BBC for including Andre Agassi in the commentary box
Andre Agassi, who once was part of Novak Djokovic‘s entourage, was lauded by some for his insights, but some found his tone unbearable. They think Agassi was a bit too analytical.

Check out their reactions here:
@BBCSport #wimbledon could someone at the BBC please take Andre Agassi off the air immediately. He is absolutely ruining the Sinner v Djokovic semi-final. Somebody act right now because this is unbearable. Whoever chose him needs firing! What were you thinking!

He's got the vocal range of a dishwasher. He's found the exact frequency between "inaudible and mumble". Turn it down and you can't hear him; turn it up and the neighbours think think they're sat in centre court at the end of every point won

Talking way too much

Agree….he is terrible as a commentator

Found myself shouting “ Shutup” at the telly for half of that !!

Absolutely, I can't make out what he is saying, but what ever he is saying is extremely long winded and monotone!

We were just saying the same thing what a boring monotone voice 😴😴😴😴

On Sunday, win or lose, Jannik Sinner will continue to sit on top of the rankings table the following day. But Zverev will occupy the second spot, displacing Carlos Alcaraz, as the Spaniard lost significant points due to a wrist injury sustained at the Barcelona Open, which also forced him to withdraw from the French Open and Wimbledon.
Andre Agassi reacts to Novak Djokovic’s defeat to Jannik Sinner
For the second consecutive season, Djokovic’s Wimbledon run ended with a straight-set defeat to Sinner in the semifinals. Because Nole had overcome the South Tyrol native in five sets in the Australian Open semifinal this year, many had expected a similar match.

But this time, Djokovic did not have answers for the four-time Grand Slam champion’s masterclass, also not to forget that he did not get much time to rest following a grueling five-hour, 15-minute win over Felix Auger-Aliassime in the quarterfinals. Reacting to Sinner’s dominating performance, Agassi said this on the BBC:
Listen, if I had to find something critical that Novak didn’t do or should have done, I wouldn’t be able. ‘He really came out here with a clear game plan, he really came out here executing everything he can do to the best of his ability without hesitation. ‘But everything was answered by Sinner.’
At the French Open this year, Djokovic’s run was ended by Joao Fonseca in the third round. The 24-time Grand Slam champion, who last won at the London Major in 2022, last played a final here in 2024, losing to Alcaraz.
Sinner, who last year defeated the seven-time Grand Slam champion in the Wimbledon final, is chasing his sixth title of the season at SW19 after his wins in Indian Wells, Miami, Madrid, Monte Carlo, and Rome. The World No.1, before coming to London, did not feature in any warm-up tournaments on grass.
At the French Open, he lost his second-round match to Juan Manuel Cerundolo after suffering severe full-body cramps. But Zverev reached the Paris final for the second time in his career and prevailed over Flavio Cobolli in five sets, finally ending his Grand Slam drought. If he snaps his losing streak against Sinner, he will become the seventh man in the Open Era to complete the Channel Slam.
