Tennis legend Andre Agassi has admitted that Alexander Zverev has issues in his game despite the German star’s excellent run at the French Open. Zverev is in the final of the Roland Garros, and he’s the favorite to win the championship.
Zverev is a three-time Grand Slam finalist. The World No.3 last got to the final of a Grand Slam in 2025 at the Australian Open but lost the title to Sinner. There was a growing concern after that loss that he might end his career without winning a major title.
He has been the player to beat at the Roland Garros, dropping just two sets at the event. He is set to face Flavio Cobolli in the final.
However, despite Zverev’s run at the French Open, he has not faced any tough opponents or a top-20 player. In fact, he has not played against a player ranked in the top 25 of the ATP rankings, and he rarely loses to a lower-ranked player. This season, the last player outside the Top 20 to beat him was Cobolli at the Munich Open in April.
Last year, he exited in the quarter-finals after losing to Djokovic. At this year’s Australian Open, he fell to Carlos Alcaraz in five sets in the last four. In a discussion on TNT Sports, Agassi highlighted that Zverev had been stubborn in previous Grand Slam tournaments, but thanks to the top players’ exits, he has the chance to win the championship:
If you don’t move forward, you don’t stay where you are; you start moving backward. Zverev has been very stubborn for many years about certain things. He has always wanted to do them his way, which has kept him close to big goals but never fully achieving them. Now he has made some changes and has also been given a very important opportunity with how the draw has opened up.
Zverev will hope that the French Open title doesn’t slip from his hand. It is believed that this might be his last chance to win a major title.
Andre Agassi gives his take on Jannik Sinner’s shocking early exit at the French Open
Jannik Sinner crashed out of Roland Garros in the second round. The Italian star was the favorite to win the tournament up to that point and was hailed as the best player during this clay season. Before his defeat against Juan Manuel Cerundolo, he had won 30 consecutive matches, winning five titles in the process.

But under the intense humid conditions in Paris, he struggled to bring his best. He had won the first two sets before struggling with physical problems that later saw him lose three consecutive sets. During the aforementioned conversation, Andre Agassi revealed that there was a flaw in the World No. 1’s preparation for the Roland Garros:
Going from having played 5 hours 30 minutes in last year’s final to being felled by the heat in 1 hour 45 minutes… there’s a flaw in that kind of preparation. He needs to find what he has to change. I know he’s currently the best player on the planet. But I also know there’s NO EXCUSE for him to run out of energy after 1 hour 45 minutes.
Sinner is expected to take a short break from tennis and bounce back following his early exit at the French Open. Some analysts highlighted that his physical struggles against Cerundolo were down to a lack of rest between tournaments.
