Maja Chwalinska has scripted history at Roland Garros, and she is not done yet. After her 7-6 (4), 6-4 victory over Diana Shnaider in 2 hours and 10 minutes, Chwalinska became the first qualifier to reach the final in the history of Roland Garros.

Chwalinska, for sure, will be attracting more brands to sponsor her because of her historic run. At the press conference later, the 24-year-old thanked Oshee, a Polish sports drink and isotonic brand, which helped her cover tournament expenses.

For now, I am playing, so I am very grateful to the company Oshee for helping me cover my hotel expenses during these three weeks. But besides that, no, I am just focusing on tennis, and I suppose the rest will come after the tournament.

And maybe she finally will have a kit sponsor. When she was asked why she has been wearing different outfits, she said:

I mean, there’s no story, really. I’m not sponsored, so (laughs). I guess that’s the story.

She will next be up against fellow first-time Grand Slam finalist Mirra Andreeva, who snapped Marta Kostyuk‘s 17-match winning streak. The two will be locking horns with each other for the first time, plus it will be the Pole’s first match against a top 10 player.

Before this event, Chwalinska booked a spot in the main draw of the Grand Slam events only twice. Andreeva, however, was a onetime Grand Slam semifinalist before this event, reaching the stage at the 2024 Roland Garros.

Diana Shnaider on what makes Maja Chwalinska a dangerous player

Diana Shnaider reached her career’s first Grand Slam semifinal after upsetting none other than World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka, even handing her a bagel in the third set. Although the Russian ace couldn’t produce the same result in the semifinal against Maja Chwalinska, she will be leaving Paris with the satisfaction of giving her all.

Instead of making any excuses, Shnaider admitted that Chwalinska’s game was better than her’s. Shnaider also explained what makes Chwalinska a dangerous player.

First and foremost, she moves incredibly on the court, covers a lot of ground, and reads the game very well. Even when you think you won a point, she is there. Not only does she return the ball in a way that you can attack, but she does it in an uncomfortable manner for you. So, you have to start the whole point from scratch and rebuild it. She has a lot of variety and a lot of spin.

The 22-year-old, before this Roland Garros, had never progressed beyond the fourth round of a Major, reaching the stage just once (2024 US Open). She also has never won a Big Title in her career.

Her left-handed forehand has a lot of spin, and her backhand has many slices. There are low balls, and, of course, the drop shots work very well. She comes to the net and covers the court very well. Her style of play fits perfectly with clay courts.

Diana Shnaider added

Chwalinska entered Roland Garros as a player ranked outside of the top 100. But now, she is on the verge of making her top 20 debut. If she beats Mirra Andreeva, she will occupy the 14th spot in the rankings table.

Andreeva, who currently occupies the No. 6th spot in the live rankings, will continue to stay there, win or no win on Saturday. The teenager already has two Big Titles to her name: the 2025 Dubai Tennis Championships and the 2025 Indian Wells Open. She will be playing in her fourth final of the season after the Adelaide International, Linz Open and the Madrid Open.
