West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell has sent his words of thanks to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for sending his nation of Jamaica coronavirus vaccines. The news of India sending the vaccines was confirmed by Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness who had stated that a shipment of 50,000 doses of the Astra-Zeneca vaccine had been donated by the Indian government.

“I am extremely pleased to report that yesterday afternoon, we received our first shipment of 50,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine donated by the Government of India. We express our deep appreciation to the Government and people of India for this very much-needed support,” he had said.

Further, a video had been posted by the High Commission of India in Guyana that featured former West Indies cricketing legends like Vivian Richards, Richie Richardson, Jimmy Adams and Ramnaresh Sarwan sending messages of gratitude to PM Narendra Modi for donating the vaccines under the initiative called the ‘Vaccine Maitri’. It is noteworthy that Antigua and Barbuda had also received 40,000 vaccines from India earlier.

Andre Russell sent his message of thanks in a video posted by ‘India in Jamaica’ today and said, “I just want to say a big, big, big thank you to Prime Minister Modi and the India High Commission. The vaccines are here and we are excited. I would love to see the world going back to normal. Jamaica people really appreciate it and just to show that we are more than close, India and Jamaica are now brothers. I appreciate it and stay safe over there. Peace,”

Andre Russell will next be seen in action in the Indian Premier League (IPL) where he will turn up for the Kolkata Knight Riders. After a disappointing season last year, the big-hitting all-rounder will be looking to make a statement as he always eyes a comeback to the West Indies national team.
