Andrea Pirlo ‘laughed like crazy’ – Former AC Milan CEO after the Italian was appointed as Juve’s manager

Adrian Galliani, former AC Milan CEO has confirmed that when he talked to Andre Pirlo about having the position of Juventus head coach, the Italian was laughing like crazy.

Italian Champions Juventus have appointed Andrea Pirlo as Juve’s head coach after the sacking of Maurizio Sarri.

Despite winning a ninth successive Serie A title last month, Sarri was sacked.

Bianconeri’ failure to even match last season’s quarter-finals performance in the Champions League resulted in the sacking of the 61-year old from Turin.

Pirlo was appointed as Head coach for Juve’s U-23 squad before taking in charge of the senior side. Galliani reveals that Pirlo was laughing mad when he was appointed as the in charge of the senior side.

Galliani told Corriere dello Sport:

“As soon as I heard Andrea on the phone, he was laughing like crazy

“We met in Monzello on August 5 for Monza’s friendly with Juve’s Under-19 team and I told him: ‘You’ll see, Andrea, that you will have a great career. You’re destined to be a successful coach.’

“But I didn’t think it would only take him three days to get on the Juventus bench! I told him I imagined it would be in a few months. He laughed!”

“Believe me, I already understood it then,” he said. “He was a coach when he played and the field does not tell any lies.

“If I had to define Andrea with a single word, I would say intelligent. And besides, he was a student. Andrea studied. Whether it was the opponent, the context of matches or situations within them. He’ll do very well at Juventus. I congratulated him.”
