Alex Pereira lost out on his gold in the UFC 313 PPV main event recently. There were many publicly sought elements to that where “Poatan” defended multiple takedowns but couldn’t get his striking going. Former kickboxer Andrew Tate was at The Mayan, LA recently. Talking about Pereira’s loss, he hinted that the duo almost fought each other once.

‘Cobra Tate’ was in attendance for Ryan Garcia’s City Of Wolves ‘Fatal Fury’ DAZN kickoff conference. Tate had already alerted he’d be taking a close and personal look at UFC 313. New champion Magomed Ankalaev outstruck Alex Pereira for unanimous scores on the judges’ cards. Weighing in on hypotheticals about Ron DeSantis and on facing Pereira, Andrew Tate had an uplifting message for him.

Pereira’s an OG; …I was supposed to fight Pereira a long time ago, …but he ended up fighting Sahak [Parparyan] back in the Showtime days. So, he’s been around…he knows the game he understands you win some you lose some. You either use it to come back stronger and better and learn something. Or you use it to destroy you.

More so, because he said they were billed for a fight once, and he considered them in the same circle. The divisive personality often gets viral for abrasive takes and even once-in-a-lifetime moments. But that sometimes mars the fact that he used to be a kickboxer.

Tate was a K-1 World Grand Prix contender and even touts 76 wins in an 80+ tenure. Andrew Tate used to be an ISKA Full Contact middleweight, light heavyweight, and Cruiserweight. However, he is inactive now, leaving the sport away to pursue other business interests.

Meanwhile, Alex Pereira is a double-division GLORY champ and Hall of Famer who made the unique transition to MMA. The rest is history, where he went on a unique multi-title campaign and thrilling knockouts. For now, post-UFC 313, the former champ will take a step back and try to recuperate some momentum for a title shot.

Alex Pereira’s coaches disagree with UFC 313 PPV decision loss

Alex Pereira lost his fourth consecutive defense at the UFC 313 PPV via decision. The Brazilian kickboxer did shed some cobwebs in later rounds, but it was a little too late. Ankalaev swept it out in a way of unanimous decision (49-46, 48-47, 48-47). This marks his first loss at light heavyweight since moving to the division in 2023.

Some bill that his pre-fight preparation was lacking; others thought he himself lacked a drive and did not work against the fence. Tristar Gym head coach Firas Zahabi thought the strike-heavy southpaw stance stumped Pereira and made him hesitant. However, both Glover Teixeira and Plinio Cruz think Pereira did almost all of it right and should have won.

We had this defeat, but in my opinion he won, …He lost on points, so now we go back to the drawing board and adjust a few things, train hard and go back and get this rematch and make history. ‘Poatan’ has made history before — and he will make history again. He’s a great warrior…

Poatan stuffed 12 TD attempts but could not muster his usual overhooks/underhooks and range management. After a triple-knockout defense and quite the infamy, the MMA world saw a round-by-round off night for Pereira. There is talk of an immediate rematch between Pereira and Ankalaev, with Cruz promising a better version of his fighter. It is something they have presented out to be ‘Poatan 2.0’.

Per opening odds (BetOnline.Ag) for the Ankalaev-Pereira rematch, the new champ is a moderate -175 prop to win, with a 63.64% chance. The Teixeira MMA & Fitness/ ‘Glover’s Garage’ fighter is a betting underdog after UFC 313. In any chance he loses the rematch, it could be the final time that Poatan will compete for a UFC gold.
