Russian tennis star Andrey Rublev has spoken about the doping systems in tennis following the scandals involving Iga Swiatek and Jannik Sinner. The WTA World No. 2 and ATP World No. 1 have recently made headlines on the tennis tour for unfortunate reasons.

Rublev, who is no stranger to controversies on the court, believes the anti-doping systems in tennis need more transparency. The Madrid Open champion stated that players should be clearly informed about the steps that could negatively impact their careers.

I think the anti-doping system should be a little more understandable. In tennis, the rules are super strict, more so than in other sports. I feel that every little mistake, even when it’s not intentional, can threaten your career.

Andrey Rublev said on Eurosport

Sinner’s doping scandal has been a major topic since August, when it was leaked to the press. The Italian tested positive for clostebol in March at Indian Wells but has not faced any suspension so far.

Meanwhile, Swiatek failed a doping test at the end of the 2024 season. She received a one-month suspension but will be eligible to compete in the United Cup in December and participate in the Australian Open build-up.

Fans have been voting for their favorite players since the award began in 2000. It allows people to pick their top singles player from the top 100 and favorite doubles team from the top 20.

Sinner first won this honor last year and has now done it again after a fantastic season. He achieved major success by winning two Grand Slam titles, the Australian Open and the US Open. He also claimed three Masters 1000 titles, the ATP Finals, and helped Italy retain the Davis Cup.

This is a rare achievement, as only five players have won the award in its 25-year history. Roger Federer dominated the category, winning it 19 straight times from 2003 to 2021. Other winners include Rafael Nadal in 2022, Marat Safin in 2001 and 2002, and Gustavo Kuerten in 2000.
