“I am delighted to be back in competition,” Andy Murray looks forward to building his confidence at Rotterdam Open 2021
Andy Murray, three time Grandslam champion will open his Rotterdam Open campaign against the local favorite, Robin Haase. The Brit has had a tipsy-turvy kind of form in the past couple of weeks. After having reached the finals of the Challenger de Biella, he was knocked out in the first round of the ATP Montpellier Open.
However, Murray is optimistic about his season and is aware that his path to the top of tennis will be tough. The Brit spoke in the pre tournament press conference of how his main aim is to build confidence at the Rotterdam Open, for the long season that lays ahead.
“I am delighted to be back in competition. Physically, I feel good, which is the most important. Obviously the next most important thing for me is to get victories and start winning again regularly on the tour. I want to try to get wins, but I just have to focus on the first game and try to get over it. I haven’t played much and I have to rebuild my confidence and get some wins,” Murray said.
Andy Murray comments on his first round opponent at Rotterdam Open
Andy Murray stated that he had played against Robin Haase a few times in his career and calls him a tricky opponent to come up against. “I’ve played Robin a few times on tour, we know each other pretty well. We’ve had tough games in big tournaments and he’s a talented guy,” said Murray.
Murray also opened up on his difficulties of playing five or six matches every week, and accepted the fact his body is not the same as it was when he was hitting the peak of his tennis career. “When you haven’t played a lot like me in the last few months, you play these games and it’s not the same as four or five years ago, when you played five, six games a week and you were used to this,” Murray concluded.
