Andy Murray has made it clear that he needs to learn more in order to be a better coach. After spending time in Novak Djokovic‘s team, Murray learned about his “weaknesses“, which is why, before joining another player’s team, he would consider learning how to coach.

Murray had spent six months in Djokovic’s team, but during that time, the Serb didn’t have much success. Although he reached the final of the Miami Open, he ended his trophy drought at the Geneva Open after parting ways with the Scot.

Something I’d say most ex-players are sort of weak at is the technical side of the game. And at times, Novak was looking for a lot of technical feedback. It was something I didn’t really feel comfortable with.

Andy Murray told The Tennis Mentor

Murray had retired at the Paris Olympics last year, and about four months later, he joined Djokovic’s team to the surprise of the tennis world because no one had expected the longtime rivals to join forces. The Australian Open was their first tournament, and Djokovic there made it to the semifinal, but an injury forced him to hand a walkover to World No.3 Alexander Zverev after he lost the first set.

I think that coaches that work with younger players are used to doing that are actually stronger than a lot of the coaches that work on Tour. If I was going to coach again in the future, I’d want to work on and learn from someone who’s very good at that.

Andy Murray added

Murray is currently working as an associate partner at venture capital firm Redrice Ventures in London. Djokovic is expected to play the US Open next.

Greg Rusedski says Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are better players than Novak Djokovic

Novak Djokovic last lifted a Grand Slam title at the 2023 US Open. He is the last player other than Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner to win a Major since 2024. The two young rivals have shared the last seven Grand Slam titles between them.

Last year, Sinner captured the hard-court Majors in Melbourne and New York, while Alcaraz completed the Channel Slam. This year, Sinner defended his Australian Open title and became the newest Wimbledon champion by beating the Spaniard.

Sinner was the runner-up when they met in the French Open final last month. The World No.1 and the World No.2 are dominating a lot in the Grand Slam events and are expected to reach incredible heights as time progresses. According to former player Greg Rusedski, Sinner and Alcaraz are better players than Djokovic at the moment.

They have separated themselves from the pack right now. These are the guys that strike the ball harder than anybody on the planet consistently, and this is what tennis needs right now. And also let’s share a thought for Djokovic. He’s had an incredible career, but these guys are just better than him at the moment.

Greg Rusedski said on BBC Radio 5 Live

Alcaraz would have become the fifth man in the Open Era to win three consecutive Wimbledon titles had he won that final. Wimbledon was Sinner’s second title on grass. Both Sinner and Alcaraz will aim to double their tally at the US Open. Sinner will enter Flushing Meadows as the defending champion. Alcaraz was the winner here in 2022.

Following his Wimbledon win, Sinner has improved his head-to-head record over the five-time Grand Slam champion to 5-8. It was his first win over the 22-year-old after five consecutive defeats. Sinner and Alcaraz are now 1-1 in Grand Slam finals.
