Andy Roddick has revealed that Jannik Sinner shares one quality trait with Roger Federer following the Italian ace’s US Open triumph. The American legend warned that Sinner’s desire to improve his game is bad news for every other player on the ATP Tour.
Sinner has been arguably the best male player this season, winning more titles than anyone else. He began the year by winning the Australian Open and Rotterdam titles. He continued with his good form winning the Miami Open. He won his first career title on grass at the Halle Open, beating Hubert Hurkacz in straight sets in the final.
Sinner became the only men’s player to win two Masters 1000 titles this season after beating Frances Tiafoe in the Cincinnati final. He tightened his World No. 1 position by clinching the US Open.
Before the Italian’s final in New York against Taylor Fritz, Roddick went to meet him in the locker room. Recalling that meeting, the American legend revealed that he was astonished by Sinnnner’s relaxed demeanor. He compared the 23-year-old’s calmness to 20-time Grand Slam Roger Federer’s usual aura before and after a big final.
He [Sinner] is the most relaxed person I’ve ever seen besides Roger before a Slam final. It feels like he has this very quiet confidence about the way that he goes about things. Even his celebrations aren’t like for anyone else, it’s like this relief like okay and you feel like he was ready to start again like an hour after the US Open, which is a problem for the rest of the earth.Andy Roddick said (via Tennis365)
Despite Sinner’s doping saga before the US Open, he demonstrated a very disciplined and focused attitude throughout his campaign in Flushing Meadows. He went on to drop only one set and that was in the first round against American Mackenzie McDonald.
Jannik Sinner to play at the China Open after much-needed rest following his US Open victory
Jannik Sinner has earned a much-needed rest after his US Open triumph. The 23-year-old is not part of Italy’s team at the Davis Cup and has withdrawn from the Laver Cup. However, he will be back in action at the China Open, which kicks off on September 26.

The Italian won the China Open last year by beating Daniil Medvedev in the final. He will hope to defend that and win his seventh title of the season. He revealed about his participation in Beijing after beating Taylor Fritz in the final of the US Open.

Meanwhile, the ATP 500 tournament will feature five of the top six ATP players, including Sinner. Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz, Medvedev, and Andrey Rublev will all participate in the event, as World No. 4 Novak Djokovic is the only absentee in the main draw list.
