Andy Roddick Calls Out ‘Bored’ Remarks Made About Carlos Alcaraz After Miami Exit: “It’s Borderline Disrespectful”
Patrick Mouratoglou had claimed that Carlos Alcaraz is dealing with boredom after achieving so much in his short career.

- Carlos Alcaraz exited the Miami Open in the third round, marking his second consecutive early exit from the tournament.
- Andy Roddick criticized claims that Alcaraz was "bored" during his matches, calling such remarks disrespectful to other players.
- Pat Cash identified Jack Draper as the only player capable of challenging Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, despite Draper pulling out of the upcoming Monte Carlo Masters.
Carlos Alcaraz suffered a third-round exit at the Miami Open, marking his second consecutive early-round exit in the tournament; last year, he lost in the opening round. It was home favorite Sebastian Korda who upset the World No.1 this time.
Prior to arriving in Miami, the seven-time Grand Slam champion was eliminated in the semifinals of the Indian Wells by eventual runner-up Daniil Medvedev. Alcaraz, for the first time since 2021, failed to win a title in one of the two Sunshine Double events.
Following his Miami exit, Serena Williams‘ former coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, claimed the reason why Alcaraz underperformed by his own standards was that he was “bored”. But Andy Roddick did not agree with his opinions and rather thinks anyone suggesting that Alcaraz was bored was borderline disrespectful. Roddick didn’t know who made this remark and said during a Q and A session on his Served podcast:
I don’t want to know who said it, because I want to react to the content…By the way, also I’m sure there was no respect to Seb Korda with that analysis, or any other player that ever beats Carlos Alcaraz. No disrespect to Medvedev, because you’re bored when you’re playing a former number one and Grand Slam champion, no disrespect to the field at all…I’d say that’s a really hard opinion to commit to unless you actually know something.
Before arriving in the California desert, the seven-time Grand Slam champion lifted back-to-back titles at the Australian Open and at the Qatar Open, by defeating Novak Djokovic and Arthur Fils, respectively. Medevdev then ended his 16-match winning streak in Indian Wells.
I think it’s borderline disrespectful to tennis earth, and players, and someone who is nine in the world and beats Alcaraz. If I’m Medvedev and I see that, I might get CTE from my eyeroll! To me, that’s ridiculous. Without knowing, that feels thirsty for clicks.
Andy Roddick added
Alcaraz will next be preparing for the clay swing, where he is set to play at the Monte Carlo Masters as the defending champion. The third Masters 1000 tournament of the season is set to start on April 5.
Pat Cash said Jack Draper is the only player who can challenge Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner
Novak Djokovic’s victory over Jannik Sinner in the semifinal of the Australian Open only proved that he still has it in him to challenge Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz in Grand Slam events. Former player Pat Cash believes that, outside of Djokovic, the only player who can challenge the World No.1 and the World No.2 is Jack Draper.

The British ace holds a 1-1 head-to-head record over the four-time Grand Slam champion. He has defeated the Spaniard two out of the six times they have faced each other.
But I think Jack Draper. I think he’s the only one; he’s got the firepower, he’s got the mental capacity. And he’s just come back out of a long time out in the second tournament, beating Djokovic, you know, Novak’s not as consistent as he used to be, but he worries these guys, he’s got something. Somebody on their day, you know, could do it, I suppose. I think Fils is a great player. He’s one of these guys that I think should rise through the rankings.
Pat Cash said on the Nothing Major podcast
Draper has pulled out of the Monte Carlo Masters. The event will be crucial for both Alcaraz and Sinner if the rankings are considered. Sinner, who has 12,400 points, will gain 1000 points if he wins the tournament. Alcaraz stands on top with 13,590 points.
