Andy Roddick had high praise for young talent, Jannik Sinner and his rise in the sport. Over the last couple of years, Sinner has risen through the ranks and is currently the World No.1.
Roddick recently released the latest episode of his podcast “Served with Andy Roddick” where he spoke about the evolution of tennis and how he was proud of the youngsters, especially Sinner, for filling the void of the Big Three.
For more than two decades, the Big Three have dominated the sport, and with time, the youngsters are slowly starting to take over. In the podcast, Andy Roddick hailed Sinner as the guardian of the sport and how he is incredibly fun to watch.
We are witnessing something special and we are very lucky that, in the void of the Big 3, we have not only this great player but also Jannik Sinner, who works in a different way. But he is incredibly fun to watch, he has emotions, he is happy, he is respectful and he is a guardian of the game.Andy Roddick said in his podcast Served
Even previously, Roddick said in the podcast that Sinner is his favorite player to watch on grass. Though he received a lot of hate from the fans over this topic, Roddick stood by his statements.
Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz set for a battle for World No.1 by the end of the year
This year, only two players have made the headlines in tennis. Towards the end of 2023 and the first half of 2024, Jannik Sinner dominated the whole circuit, winning three tournaments on the trot including the Australian Open.
With those tournament wins, he got enough points to replace Novak Djokovic as World No.1 by the start of the clay season and is now soaring high with points. However, his rival, Carlos Alcaraz, won the French Open and then entered the grass season with better form than Sinner.
Now, the race for the World No.1 spot was between Sinner, Novak Djokovic, and Alcaraz. With the Spaniard clinching another Wimbledon title, he is now at the No.3 spot with few points to defend for the remainder of the season.
Now, with the tour heading towards the Olympics and the last phase of the tour, the race is on between the two. With just a few points between the two, they will need deep runs and some big wins to try and end the year as the World No.1.
