Rookies Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark play out halfcourt shooting contest during WNBA All-Star practice

With Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese about to be teammates for the first time ever, fans are excited. The two rivals have so far battled against each other a total of 5 times. Twice in college and 3 times in the WNBA. The two, however, have been instrumental in bringing so many eyes to the league. That increased following has led to the WNBA All-Star weekend being sold out for all events.

As members of the All-Star team who will go up against Team USA, the two rookies had to work out together along with the rest of the All-Stars. In between practice rounds, all the players got together and went in for a contest of half-court shots. Naturally, the two rookies were told to go against each other. Clark pulled up for the shot first, but the ball was wide to the left. Next up Reese threw up the ball with a lot of backspin.

It goes to show that they may be rivals when the competition demands it. But they can also be teammates when the situation needs it. Reese has made it clear recently that she would like both of them to be Olympic teammates in the next games.

Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese as future Olympics teammates

This year’s Olympics squad is replete with a mix of veterans and newbies who have years of experience playing in the WNBA. But the most notable omission was Caitlin Clark. Many of her fans say that she should have been a part of that team. On the other hand, Team USA prefers to take players who have established themselves as some of the best in the league.

Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese are already making waves with their play. But they are yet to be in the discussion of some of the best players. This is why Reese suggested that the next Olympics in 2028 will be a good time for the two to represent the USA. With that statement, she essentially gave them 4 years to develop into some of the best basketball players in the WNBA.

By then, the selection committee will not have to think twice when selecting them. The two rookies will by then be 4-year veterans. Who knows how many more records they will keep breaking until they become Olympic teammates?
