Chicago Sky star Angel Reese has been one of the most talked about rookies in the WNBA this season, alongside Caitlin Clark. Reese has been consistently recording double-doubles in her rookie season. Despite her impressive performance, many fans believe that Reese is padding her stats. The specter of stat-padding continues to linger over the talented Chicago Sky star as the season progresses.
Recently in a post game interview, Angel Reese addressed the accusations of stat padding. During the interview, Reese discussed her focus on rebounds, explaining how she actively goes after them during games. She also talked about her ability to quickly grab offensive and defensive rebounds.
Offensive rebounds and defensive rebounds is something that I know I can always do. I knew that was gonna translate right away. That’s something that a lot of players don’t wanna do. A lot of people think it is because I get my own rebounds, statistically, it’s not. A lot of people think it is because I’m the tallest on the court, I’m not the tallest on the court.”Angel Reese via The Sporting News
Sky head coach Teresa Weatherspoon previously highlighted her relentlessness in fighting for the ball and hunger to secure it at any cost as the key factors that keep her dominant in the paint. Weatherspoon also noted that Reese has a talent for grabbing rebounds no matter what. Currently, Reese is averaging 13.1 rebounds in the current season.
Since her college days, critics have targeted Reese as one of the most polarizing stars. However, none of them have been as pervasive as the accusations of stat-padding against her. Fans have also been criticizing Reese for her recent win-loss record with the Chicago Sky. Despite the criticisms, Reese has displayed the potential to become a future superstar and is determined to prove her critics wrong as her career progresses.
