Long before Angel Reese became a household name with LSU, she was not that well known. But she was the no. 2 ranked recruit coming out of high school netting her invitations from top NCAA programs. Now she has elevated herself to become a record holder in the WNBA.

She was ranked behind Paige Bueckers and above Caitlin Clark at the time according to ESPN’s recruiting database. Quite the feat, as that class of 2020 featured more than 50 five-star recruits. As is common with such high-ranked hoopers, she was invited by the likes of USC, Syracuse, South Carolina and Tennessee.

All those top programs wanted her at the time, but she chose to stay home and commit to Maryland. After two seasons, she entered the transfer portal and joined veteran head coach Kim Mulkey‘s LSU Tigers. An NCAA Championship and battles with Caitlin Clark later, she is now a bonafide superstar.

But one photograph of Angel Reese has become viral on social media. In that, she is wearing a UConn t-shirt and standing alongside Huskies head coach Geno Auriemma. The picture suggests she was part of an invitation from the winningest college program. This picture eventually came to her attention.

She ended her message with emoticons depicting crying, then laughter and then a facepalm, suggesting that she did not want her fans to know she could have been part of the UConn legacy. It could leave many wondering what if she and Paige Bueckers had teamed up under Auriemma.

Angel Reese back in the gym working on her shots

With the WNBA Draft lottery coming up in five day’s time, Angel Reese will come to know if she and her Chicago Sky have a chance at drafting Bueckers. But considering how highly rated the UConn senior is, chances of the Dallas Wings exercising their swap rights with the Sky are high.

If they do, the Sky will be looking at adding the next best wing among the rest. The name currently highest on mock drafts is Reese’s former LSU teammate Aneesah Morrow. That will give them the complimentary piece around the rebounding phenom and Kamilla Cardoso.

But the part where the Sky lacked last season was scoring. After the trade of their leading scorer, the team struggled to generate points. Angel Reese might be grabbing enough rebounds to generate second-chance points. But her poor conversion rate saw a lot of trolling on social media.

Now, after recovering from her wrist injury, the superstar is back in the gym. A video clip shows the Sky star working on her baskets in the paint. If she can get her efficiency up to her college levels, she should be easily a 20-20 machine. Her team needs that if they are to try for the WNBA playoffs.
