Shaquille O'Neal and WNBA and Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese

Shaquille O’Neal was known for his incredibly physically dominant play in and around the interior of a basketball court. The four-time champion did have his famous one-hand shots that always went in. But what he is infamous for are his free throws. His ‘LSU niece’, Angel Reese, knows all too well about that and decided to make a spot bet with him. and bet a little more than her rookie WNBA salary.

The WNBA rebounding phenom was with O’Neal on a basketball court and they were standing beside the free throw line. When a ball was passed to the 7′ 1″ big man, Reese said that she would pay him $100,000 if he made the shot. Shaquille O’Neal proceeded to shoot and found the net, meaning Reese now owed him big money.

I guess I owe him 100K.

Angel Reese has made a lot of money through her NIL deals in college. Now in the WNBA, she has expanded on that to sign more lucrative endorsement deals, most notably with sportswear giant Reebok and confectionary company Reese’s.

All of this means that Reese will not have any problems paying her ‘uncle’ the $100K. That money, however, is more than what she earned in her rookie WNBA season — $73,439. In fact, she will not be able to make $100k in any year of her rookie contract.

Shaquille O’Neal is the drive behind Angel Reese’s endorsement boost

Shaquille O’Neal has made it clear he would support his fellow LSU graduate Angel Reese. Time and again he has been in her corner. He is also the mastermind behind Reese’s massive influx of endorsements and other forms of income. As President of Reebok’s basketball division, he signed her to a multi-year deal while she was at LSU.

Reese wears their products during games and even has a signature shoe coming out. With Reebok being a part of the Authentic Brands Group, the same company that owns and runs Sports Illustrated, they had Reese as their cover star in their recent edition. The 22-year-old has also started a podcast under O’Neal’s production house.

All of this shows how the Hall of Famer is helping the rookie build alternative sources of income. As he previously stated, he wants to see Angel Reese, Caitlin Clark, and other WNBA players earn millions. These moves show he is trying to do his part in paving the way.
