The Los Angeles Angels will once again miss the playoffs. Following their 5-2 loss against the Boston Red Sox on Monday, the American League West side was officially eliminated from the postseason race. Fans on social media later flamed Mike Trout.
After winning their first two games of the season, there were small talks whether this could finally be the year when things change for them. Unfortunately for them, that has not been the case.
They ended the first half of the season with a 38-59 record. On top of that, Trout had another trip on the injured list as he suffered a strain in his right hamstring.
There was no improvement in the second half of the season. Their 5-2 loss on Monday was their 12th loss in their last 15 games, leaving them with a 54-90 record. With that loss, they were mathematically eliminated from playoff contention.
The last time the Angels made it to the postseason was in 2014. After finishing with a 98-64 record, they got swept 3-0 in the American League Division Series (ALDS) against the Kansas City Royals. Their 12-year postseason drought is the longest active drought of any team in MLB.

The one thing that has surprised many is the fact that the AL West has been wide open this year. With a 73-71 record, the Houston Astros are the only team in the division to have a winning record. Apart from that, the Angels have a 21-22 record against their division rivals.
It is their performance against the other division teams that has cost them. They have gone 11-18 against the AL East and have a poor 7-20 record against the AL Central. As for interleague play, they are 15-30.
Mike Trout catches flak from fans after Angels miss playoffs again
Mike Trout will have to wait at least another year for his 2nd playoff appearance. On Monday, the Los Angeles Angels were eliminated from the playoff race after they lost to the Boston Red Sox.

Individually, Trout has been one of the best players of his generation. He has earned 12 All-Star nominations and has been a 3-time MVP. Despite his brilliance, the team has constantly failed to get to the postseason.
The American international found himself under backlash on Monday for his loyalty. Many fans on X argued that he “wasted his career” by not requesting a trade.
Check out some of those reactions below:
Trout wasted his career on a bad team. No wonder he gets hurt like clockwork each season.

Mike Trout just happy not being competitive and collecting the check 😂

Trout is perfectly ok being with a mediocre team and getting those fat checks. pic.twitter.com/M6yON8Oghm

for being the best player ever
— Stephen ☧ (@StephenTheGuy) September 7, 2026
he sure doesn't help his team win much
He obviously enjoys playing for the @Angels but I find it interesting that this fact doesn't seem to bother him

In 2019, Trout signed a massive 12-year, $426.5 million contract extension with the Angels despite their poor performance. Right now, he still has 4 years left on his deal and is not keen on moving away from the Anaheim-based side.
The future could be bright for the Angels following the sale of the team to Stan Kroenke
For a 12th straight year, the Los Angeles Angels will not be involved in the postseason. While this is another dark moment for the franchise, their future could be bright following the sale of the team to Stan Kroenke.

Last week, the Angels announced that Kroenke and Sports Entertainment (KSE) had entered a definitive agreement to acquire the control rights of the team. As per reports, the team was sold for $4 billion.
Under Kroenke’s ownership, the Los Angeles Rams (NFL), the Colorado Avalanche (NHL), the Denver Nuggets (NBA), the Colorado Mammoth (NLL), the Colorado Rapids (MLS), and Arsenal F.C. (English Premier League) have all won championships. Given the success these teams have had, there is some optimism among the Angels fans regarding their future.
Stan Kroenke is a WINNER:

The Angels will now have an owner who has a winning pedigree. The franchise’s one and only World Series title came in 2002 when they defeated Barry Bonds and the San Francisco Giants in the Fall Classic. In 2003, The Walt Disney Company sold the team to Arte Moreno, who had since been serving as the owner.
