Atlanta Braves star Ronald Acuna Jr. was embracing the villain role during the series against the Philadelphia Phillies this weekend. After receiving some criticism regarding his home run celebrations, the former NL MVP drew huge boos from the Phillies fans on Sunday after another celebration.
On Saturday, Acuna Jr. crushed a solo home run against Zack Wheeler for his 500th RBI. In typical Acuna Jr. fashion, he celebrated the home run with a wild trot. The Phillies fans at Citizens Bank Park rained down boos at him as he circled the bases.
The Phillies ended up winning the game 4-2. Wheeler later took exception to this celebration. In the press conference, the starting pitcher indirectly referenced Kyle Schwarber and said his teammate simply circles the bases despite hitting 50 home runs in one season.
It’s up to him to do what he wants. Our guy just rounds the bases that hits 50 here.
Zack Wheeler told the reporters regarding Ronald Acuna Jr.

On Sunday, Acuna Jr. was in the spotlight once again. In the top of the 8th inning, he came up to bat with two runners on base and his side 4-1 down.
After taking 6 straight pitches over 100 mph from Alex McFarlane, he crushed the 7th pitch. He smashed a 3-run, game-tying home run off a 100 mph fastball.
Once again, he rounded the bases slowly. As he circled them, the fans once again booed him heavily. Check out a video regarding this below:

He was not done there, though. The right fielder then came out of the dugout for a “curtain call” and raised his hand to enrage the Phillies fans even more.

The Braves took this game 5-4. After the game, Acuna Jr. told the reporters that the boos from the fans motivated him.
I love it when they (Phillies fans) boo me every time, so that’s motivation for me and my team.

With the win, the Braves opened a 5-game lead over the Phillies in the NL East standings. They also secured the season series against them, improving to 7-2 record for the season.
Ronald Acuna Jr. reached a career milestone following his 3-run HR on Sunday
When the Atlanta Braves needed him the most on Sunday, Ronald Acuna Jr. stepped up once again. His huge 3-run home run tied the game at 4-4 in the top of the 8th inning. This home run also saw him reach a career milestone.

Acuna Jr.’s game-tying shot on Sunday was his 1,000th hit in the MLB. In his 3,497 at-bats in the regular season, he collected his 1,000th hit.

As mentioned above, his home run on Saturday was his 500th career RBI. Just a few days back, he also joined the 200/200 club.
His home run against the Washington Nationals was his 200th career home run. This saw him become the fastest player in MLB history to hit 200 home runs and have 200 stolen bases, doing so 25 games faster than Alfonso Soriano.

So last week was a record-setting week for Acuna Jr. in MLB. For the year, he now has 16 home runs and 45 RBIs in 90 games. The Braves would hope his bat remains hot as they aim for a deep postseason run this year.
