Earlier this week, the Los Angeles Angels announced that Stan Kroenke, owner of the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams, will take over the club in 2027 as the new owner following the sale of the team. On Thursday, Earvin “Magic” Johnson hyped him up for this on social media.

The Anaheim-based side has been in a major decline in the past decade. They have not finished with a winning record since 2015 and have not made the playoffs since 2014, when they were swept in the American League Division Series (ALDS) by the Kansas City Royals.

The sale of the Angels was explored before as well. In 2022, owner Arte Moreno was reported to be open to selling the team. However, he later decided against it and remained as a majority owner.

This sale will bring an end to his 23-year-tenure as the owner. Moreno acquired the Angels from The Walt Disney Company in 2003 after their World Series triumph against the San Francisco Giants in 2022.

Following this development, the Angels fans were left excited on social media. For several years, they have urged the sale of the team following its repeated failures.

Now, the team will have an owner who has a massive winning pedigree. Apart from his success with the LA Rams, Kroenke’s other sporting teams, like the Denver Nuggets, the Colorado Avalanche, and Arsenal FC, have all won championships.

Johnson, who is a good friend of Kroenke, congratulated him on this. Though the former Los Angeles Lakers star is a minority owner of Angels’ cross-town rivals, the Los Angeles Dodgers, he has confidence in Kroenke bringing back glory to the AL West side.

I want to congratulate my good friend Stan Kroenke on becoming the new owner of MLB’s Los Angeles Angels! Stan has been a winner with his current teams – a Super Bowl Championship with the Rams, a Stanley Cup Championship with the Avalanche, and an NBA Championship with the Nuggets. I’m sure he will do the same with the Angels.

As of Thursday, the Angels are 53-87 for the season. They need to win 10 games out of their remaining 22 fixtures to avoid finishing the year with 100 losses.

Stan Kroenke’s winning track record has Mike Trout excited

While the Los Angeles Angels will finish the 2026 season with another poor record, there is excitement regarding their future under new owner Stan Kroenke. The winning track record of the businessman has even Mike Trout excited.

In his 16 seasons with the Angels, the 12-time MLB All-Star has just one playoff appearance. Despite his individual brilliance, the Angels were unable to make it to the playoffs. Even when they had Shohei Ohtani on the team, they struggled and missed out on playing baseball in October.

While Ohtani has moved on to the Dodgers and won back-to-back World Series titles, Trout is still there at the Angels. The 35-year-old still has 4 years remaining on his massive 12-year, $426.5 million contract extension that he signed in 2019.

In his conversation with the reporters on Wednesday, the 3-time MVP expressed excitement for the future under Kroenke and pointed out his winning record.

You look at the track record, I know one thing that’s gonna be on his mind is get to the World Series, win a championship. As a player, it makes you feel good to have that and to feel that.

In recent years, Kroenke’s teams have tasted success in their leagues. The Rams won the Super Bowl in 2022, beating the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20. The Avalanche won the Stanley Cup later that year in June, stopping the Tampa Bay Lightning from 3-peating the title.

In 2023, the Nuggets beat the Miami Heat 4-1 in the NBA Finals. Nikola Jokic was named the MVP of this series. Meanwhile, after 3 seasons as runner-ups in the English Premier League, Arsenal FC won the title in 2026, finishing 7 points ahead of Manchester City and clinching their first league title since the 2003-04 Invincibles season.

So for the Angels, the future seems bright under Kroenke. He has also revealed his desire to build a new stadium.
