The Los Angeles Angels’ 2026 season came to an end on Sunday with another loss. Their 7-3 defeat against the Seattle Mariners on the final day of the regular season saw them script an unwanted franchise first.

This was another campaign where the Anaheim-based side struggled. They had some huge losing streaks and were once again almost out of the playoff race by the end of the first half of the season when they were 38-59.

The second half did not bring in any major changes. A 5-2 loss against the Boston Red Sox earlier this month officially confirmed their elimination.

This marked a 12th straight year where the Angels had missed the playoffs. It is currently the longest postseason drought of any team in the MLB.

When they were eliminated, the Angels were 54-90 for the season. In their remaining 18 games, they needed to win at least 9 games to avoid losing 100 games in a season.

While the team has had its lows in the past decade, they had never finished a season with 100 or more losses until this campaign. In fact, they were the only team remaining in the MLB not to have a 100-loss season.

In their final 4-game series against the Mariners, they started with 2 wins, leaving them 62-98 for the season. Following an 8-4 loss on Saturday, the Angels ended up losing 7-3. Unfortunately for them, this was the 100th defeat of the season, thus scripting an unwanted franchise first.

This also comes in a campaign where superstar Mike Trout was healthy for most of the season. His 142 games played is the most since 2016. Despite his 22 home runs and 56 RBIs, the Angels were unable to avoid this unwanted record.

On the other hand, their crosstown rivals, the Los Angeles Dodgers, won 100 games this year. The 2-time defending champions finished with a 100-62 record. A massive contrast between the two LA teams.

Mike Trout is excited for the future of the LA Angels

The Los Angeles Angels recorded their first-ever 100-loss season as they finished with a 62-100 record. Despite this, Mike Trout is excited for the future of the team.

He has a good reason for that too. The Angels are currently in a transition period following the sale of the team.

Earlier this month, reports emerged that the American League West side had been sold to the Kroenke Sports & Entertainment (KSE) group. Arte Moreno, who brought the team in 2003 following their World Series triumph in 2002, reportedly sold the club for around $4 million.

Under the ownership of Stan Kroenke, his other teams in the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLS, NLL, and the English Premier League have all achieved championship success. This is something that has left the Angels fans excited.

While Trout has spoken with people from the KSE, he has yet to speak to his new owner. Still, he is super excited for the future of his team.

It’s super exciting. The conversations that we had, I’m obviously going to keep it in-house but it was very positive. And it gets me excited.

Mike Trout said as per MLB.com

Trout, who has been with the club since 2011, has only one playoff appearance. The repeated failures of the team have led many to urge him to demand a trade.

At the moment, he still has 4 years remaining on his massive 12-year, $426.5 million deal, which he signed in 2019. With the team under new ownership, he has no plans to quit on them.
