After the controversial defeat of Spain against Japan in the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the whole world has expressed their opinions on the goal that changed their fate. More recently the Japanese professional Tennis legend Naomi Osaka; the first Asian player to hold the number one ranking in singles, has also expressed her happiness for Japan’s official entry in the Round of 16 of this campaign, in her own way which is pure swag.

As to everyone’s knowledge Japan is quite popular amongst the Pop culture with its Anime references. The Anime characters have different but massive powers. Naomi Osaka shares a tweet where the Japanese players are lined up face upfront, and everybody’s face is made to look like one of the popular Anime characters. Taking references from ultra popular Anime like Naruto and Dragon Ball Z. However, the tennis legend is not the only one happy with this emphatic yet controversial victory.

The match was a highly anticipated one, as beating the table toppers Spain seemed next to impossible for the Japanese side, but the impossible happened as the sport is known for and Japan twisted Spain’s ears into converting the win for themselves during the beginning of the second half itself. After Japan defeated Spain it eventually led Germany out of the FIFA World Cup.

This year’s campaign for Germany didn’t go as planned at all. Starting off with a shocking defeat from Japan(2-0), the team stood back on confidence and later somehow redeemed themselves in a pulsating draw with Spain. However, the table toppers Spain eventually the second runner on the table somehow qualified for the next round on goal difference, as they had a massive cushion when they beat Costa Rica 7-0.

Japan’s controversial victory over Spain in the 2022 FIFA World Cup

The particular Group E match was the most exciting as in a single game, Spain lost their number 1 throne, Japan crawled to the top while the Germans were declared out. Having just scored the equalizer in the 48th minute, the winger Ritsu Doan took the ball and went towards the goal, Kaoru Mitoma drag passed the ball towards Ao Tanaka to knee it inside the goal only to find that the ball ran out of play before the assist.

The VAR later checked the controversial goal and was given in favor of the Japanese who wrote the history of Group E themselves. Several pundits and fans online have questioned the decision and VAR is to blame in all the comments. Even Manchester United legend Gary Neville tweeted with a suspicious call to the goal that was allowed, in their favor. People from across the world have divided over the judgment that eventually decided the fate of not one but two nations.
