Anthony Davis could join Dallas Mavericks teammate Kyrie Irving to end season early

The Dallas Mavericks traded away Luka Doncic with the hope that Anthony Davis along with Kyrie Irving will lead them to their second ever NBA title. It has been more than a month since that happened and recent developments indicate the goal is nowhere close to being fulfilled.

Davis has been sidelined ever since he suffered that injury in his lone game for his new team. He will be available down the line as fans wait to see what he and Kyrie Irving along with Klay Thompson can do together.

In their last game against the Sacramento Kings, that hope came to a grinding halt. Early in the game, Irving landed badly on his left leg and hobbled off the court after shooting both free throws. Later in the evening it was confirmed that he indeed suffered a torn ACL.

Therefore, his season is over as he will now undergo surgery and proceed on a recovery path with his sights set on next season. Without Irving, the Dallas Mavericks season is effectively over. That led ESPN’s Shams Charania to say this.

I think him, his representatives are gonna huddle up. I think they’re gonna have some very hard conversations. It’s not out of the realm of possibility that one game was the last time we’ve seen Anthony Davis this season.

Shams Charania said

The Insider’s belief is that with the Mavericks looking at an early end to their season, it makes no sense for Anthony Davis to try and come back to play. Rather, it would be better if he rests and focuses on recovery with a goal to reach the Finals next season.

Kyrie Irving becomes eighth Mavs player on injury list

Kyrie Irving’s season ending injury makes him the only one to know his season is over. However, there are seven other Dallas Mavericks players beside him who are out with injuries. After Irving left the court, guard Jaden Hardy joined him in the medical room soon after.

They do not have any front court player available and are down three guards along with a couple of forwards. That is not what a team looking to contend for an NBA title can play with. Essentially, except Klay Thompson, their entire starting lineup is out.

The team are currently tenth in the West and have twenty games left to play. Without their starters, it seems the team will slide down the standings. Therefore, it could be a wise decision if Anthony Davis stands pat.

There is no need to risk their health as their season is practically over. The rest of their starters can also take time off to heal and focus on getting back next season. The team is capable of fighting for an NBA title.
