- Anthony Davis expressed his commitment to the Washington Wizards, citing his contract and appreciation for the organization.
- He has not played this season due to a left hand injury but aims to debut next season.
- The Wizards are building a young roster around Davis and Trae Young, seeking improvement after a disappointing 2025-26 season.
The 2025-26 campaign has not gone according to plan for Anthony Davis. After the blockbuster Luka Doncic-Anthony Davis trade at the trade deadline last year, Davis struggled to make a name for himself in Dallas due to constant injuries. He was traded to the Washington Wizards at the trade deadline this year, putting an end to a difficult one-year spell with the Dallas Mavericks.
However, Davis did not make a single appearance for the Wizards this season due to an injury in his left hand, which ruled him out for the entire campaign. In a recent interview, the former champion was asked if he expected to still be with the Wizards at the start of the 2026-27 season. He said:
I’m under contract. I love my money. This place is not what people make it seem. It’s a testament to the organization, to the coaching staff, to the players, the media, everybody here.

Anthony Davis had a good five-and-a-half-season spell with the Los Angeles Lakers, where he won the NBA championship in 2020 and was selected as an All-Star four times. But things have gone downhill since.
He has struggled to stay fit, and his inconsistent form played a role in his being traded to the Mavs. However, in just a year, the big man was shipped to a struggling Wizards. Alongside Davis, the Wizards traded for Trae Young as well.
With a top-eight protected pick in the 2026 NBA draft, the Wizards are building a young roster alongside the new pairing of Young and Davis. The team does have ambitious plans for the future as they continue to look for their maiden NBA championship.
Anthony Davis relates to LeBron James after joining the Washington Wizards
While Anthony Davis just turned 33 last month, he is the oldest member of the Wizards roster. The Wizards have one of the youngest squads in the league. Davis will make his debut for the club next season.
When talking about his young teammates in Washington, he related to his former teammate, LeBron James. He said:
In the summer, right now, I’m going to compete, train, and have the mindset that I will be here next year. Not only because I’m under contract, but also, I like these young guys. I ain’t going to lie. I feel like they’re all my children. Some of these guys were four or five in my rookie year, which is crazy. Now I see how Bron feels.

This could be an opportunity for Davis to impart some wisdom. Next season will represent Davis’ 15th season in the NBA. His young teammates will be looking up to him as a veteran with championship experience.
Anthony Davis reveals his true feelings on being traded to the Washington Wizards
There is no doubt that when fit and healthy, Anthony Davis is one of the best two-way players in the league. Unfortunately, his lack of availability has been a concern for the majority of his career. However, a move to the Wizards did shock many. The Wizards have always been a struggling franchise, and a move there was seen as a setback for a player of Davis’ caliber.

Davis admitted his first reaction was confusion and disappointment when he first heard about his move to the capital.
I didn’t understand. I was one of those guys too. It was like, damn, Washington? But then when you get here, you look at the facility. You look at the little details, the team. It’s not bad. I like the young guys on the team. They play hard. So for me, when I talk to the GM, when I talk to the owner, when I talk to the president, I’m always going to be about winning. But when you’re in a rebuild, and for me, I’m at a young 33, every year that I play from here on out, I want to be able to compete for a championship.

The Wizards finished the 2025-26 season at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings. They had the worst record in the league as they finished at 17-65. They will be looking for a much better 2026-27 season and make a push for the playoffs with a healthy Anthony Davis and Trae Young leading the way.
