Anthony Edwards and teammates ignored Inside the NBA interviews after Draymond Green's criticism of Karl Anthony-Towns and Rudy Gobert
TNT was the exclusive broadcasting partner of the NBA for the Western Conference Finals. This meant the Inside the NBA crew hosted the pre, half-time, and post-game shows.
As part of this exclusivity, they get to interview players on their dais. Except, Anthony Edwards and his Minnesota Timberwolves abstained from any interviews with the crew after Draymond Green‘s relentless criticism of Karl Anthony-Towns and Rudy Gobert over the course of the series.
The Athletic reported that Anthony Edwards and his Timberwolves teammates felt that Karl Anthony-Towns and Rudy Gobert were subject to ‘derisive and seemingly personal criticism from Draymond Green’. It showed as none of them spoke with the crew even after they won Game 4. If one noticed, Kyrie Irving, Luka Doncic, and Daniel Gafford were on the dais with the Inside the NBA crew after games 1, 2, 3, and 5. Green even advised Gafford after game 3 during his sit-down with the crew.
It showed that the Minnesota Timberwolves were united in their small protest. Apparently sending a message that they would not stand for such personalized criticism. In fact, the only time any Timberwolves player was with a journalist was during the post-game interviews.
However, Draymond Green was part of the crew up until Game 4. Who knows if the Timberwolves had met the Inside the NBA crew had they won Game 5?
Timberwolves face difficult decisions over Anthony Edwards and teammates’ future
Anthony Edwards making the All-NBA team means he will get a Super Max raise on his existing deal. Karl Anthony-Towns will also get a significant raise over this year’s salary. Jaden McDaniels has a new deal which will kick in come July. Add to all that, Rudy Gobert‘s monster salary.
However, the Minnesota Timberwolves are expected to be levied almost $50 million in luxury tax. For a small market team, that is a massive amount. They could sustain it next year if they feel they can run it back and try for the NBA championship. However, their ownership impasse is an added point of concern.
All in all, they will have to figure out if they want to pay the tax or move some pieces. If they do continue, they will have to make changes to the way they play if they are to overcome this Western Conference Finals loss.
