Every time Anthony Edwards plays basketball, media networks and social media pages wait for him to say or do something that is guaranteed to go viral.

Some of his theatrics have landed him with fines. Then there are other instances that have helped to mould the image of the character the 24-year-old carries.

Even when former President Barack Obama had a conversation, he, too, was amazed by the youngster’s supreme confidence and the way in which he spoke.

It reeks of Atlanta swagger, something that even many locals are asked to dumb down on, especially when they appear in front of a camera. But Ant-Man usually does not care.

We ain’t beat Toronto since Bruce Lee died!

Anthony Edwards said

This was the four-time All-Star’s summary to FanDuel Sports Network’s Cayleigh Griffin after he guided the Minnesota Timberwolves to a 128-126 victory over the Toronto Raptors.

He was answering Griffin’s question about the Timberwolves’ first win in Toronto over the Raptors since 2004. But his reference was wild, as the martial arts expert and actor passed away in 1973, 22 years before the Raptors even existed.

Saying this was their first win since Bruce Lee was Anthony Edwards at his usual humorous best, knowing exactly how to add a comic spin on things. No wonder this clip went viral within seconds of reaching social media, with prominent media houses sharing it on their pages.

Anthony Edwards might not play in the All-Star game

After the game, Anthony Edwards doubled down on that wild Bruce Lee line, as he reiterated that he has been hearing about his team’s history in Canada.

Then, The Score asked the Atlanta native about the upcoming All-Star weekend and if he expects the new USA vs. World format to be competitive.

I don’t know, man. Right now, I’m kind of banged up, so I might not be playing. But yeah, I hope it’s competitive.

Anthony Edwards replied

This means the 2020 first-overall pick would likely excuse himself from the All-Star game that will take place on February 15th. If the league replaces him with another player, Edwards would likely stay back in Minneapolis and recover from whatever injuries he has.

If he does not travel to Los Angeles, those eight days he will get after their February 11th game against the Portland Trail Blazers will be crucial for his Timberwolves, who are still just outside the playoff spots.

His answer also seems to indicate that he hopes this new format would make the All-Star game competitive, as it has been a borefest for a while. But Anthony Edwards’ mind is focused on his team and his body at the moment.

Anthony Edwards hopes veteran teammate returns

With the trade deadline hours away, the Minnesota Timberwolves are still in the thick of making some deals that could help Anthony Edwards and his teammates take the next step.

Even though they were linked to possibly go after Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, nothing has materialized so far. Instead, they gave up some role players, one of whom was very close with the Paris Olympics gold medalist.

Mike’s my guy. He’s like an OG to me, man… Hopefully we can get him back… I keep hearing he can come back, so hopefully he will and I hope he see this. We want you back, Mike. He know we miss him.

Anthony Edwards told Chris Hine

Edwards was referring to Mike Conley Jr.‘s trade away initially to the Chicago Bulls, and then to the Charlotte Hornets. The superstar guard hopes his ‘OG’ can return to the team in some manner.
