Last season marked the rise to superstardom of Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards. He was selected as the first overall pick in the 2020 NBA draft. Edwards is proving to be one of the best stars in the current NBA and carried the Timberwolves on his shoulders. Edwards and Timberwolves ended the season as the third seed in the tough Western Conference.
Former teammate Taurean Prince revealed what exactly makes Anthony Edwards great. On the Tidal League podcast, Prince talked to Theo Pinson about Edwards and his recent rise to the top. Pinson said Edwards believed he was the ‘best player in the world.’ Prince agreed with the assessment and talked about the Timberwolves star.
Ant’s best talent is that he is coachable…He listens. It’s a different ball game when somebody that talented, listens…In the gym, always. Whether it’s shootaround day, last one in the gym, whether it’s practice day, last one in the gym.Taurean Prince via Tidal League Podcast
Prince saw Edward’s journey as he became an All-Star and the team leader. Prince even mentioned Edwards’ humble side and stated that it was also one of his great qualities. Edwards has certainly shown his potential and will remain one of the favorites to win the MVP in the upcoming season. He also possesses great confidence and has a strong voice on the court.
He has also proven his greatness in the playoffs. Edwards was one of the main reasons as the Timberwolves defeated the former champions Denver Nuggets in the second round. Edwards even swept the Phoenix Suns in embarrassing fashion. Currently, Edwards is a part of the Team USA for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Anthony Edwards is getting compared to Michael Jordan
Michael Jordan is arguably the greatest basketball player to step on the court. Many have compared the upcoming superstars to the ‘Next Michael Jordan.’ Now, again, the comparisons have started with the rise of Anthony Edwards.
From his flashy poster dunks to confident post-game replies, Edwards is the perfect person to represent the league, just as Jordan does. Both stars share similar scoring plays and styles and even operate at the same position. Like Jordan, even Edwards is playing for Team USA in the Olympics and aiming to win the gold medal.
The NBA will need a star to be the face of the league, and Edwards can certainly be that guy. Edwards was also asked about the comparisons to Jordan, to which he stated that he doesn’t want the fans and experts to compare him to Jordan.
