Anthony Edwards reflected on the Minnesota Timberwolves’ Western Conference Finals loss to the Dallas Mavericks, attributing their defeat to a lack of cohesion as a team. Unlike their previous series against the Suns and Nuggets, Edwards felt that the team never clicked together in this series, which hindered their performance.
The Timberwolves were defeated in five games, and Edwards put up a strong performance in Game 5 with 28 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists. However, his efforts were not enough to overcome the dominant performances of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, who scored 36 points each to lead the Mavericks to a 124-103 win.
We never clicked all together as a team in this series. Not even one game. I think that was the main thing. The last two series, we were all clicking at one time making shots and stuff. We weren’t clicking at one time here.Anthony Edwards said in the post-game presser
Edwards’ overall performance in the series was not great, although he averaged 24.6 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 7.8 assists. His shooting numbers were poor, with a field goal percentage of just 43%.
Despite their disappointing exit from the playoffs, Edwards and the Timberwolves had a remarkable postseason run, as they swept the Phoenix Suns and eliminated the reigning NBA champion Denver Nuggets. Edwards proved himself to be a superstar, and the Timberwolves are a team to watch in the coming years. They will now regroup and reset ahead of the next season.
Anthony Edwards vows Timberwolves will return to playoffs next year
Edwards remained confident in the Timberwolves’ future despite their season-ending loss to the Mavericks in Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals. When asked about his emotions, Edwards vowed that the team will return to the NBA Playoffs next season.
Uhh, I just said, we'll be back next year… Unfortunately, it's going through it with a loss, but I guess so.Anthony Edwards said
Edwards and the Timberwolves had a remarkable playoff run, sweeping the Phoenix Suns. However, their journey ended just short of the NBA Finals.
Despite the loss, Edwards’ performance in the playoffs was impressive, averaging 27.6 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 6.5 assists in 16 games. At just 22 years old, Edwards is a rising star and a key part of the Timberwolves’ future success.
