Anthony Richardson is coming off a major shoulder injury from last year and though the last thing on his mind is changing his playing style, he is open to seeking advice on improving his game. Especially from his backup quarterback, who just so happens to be veteran quarterback Joe Flacco.
The Indianapolis Colts signed Flacco from free agency this offseason as the backup quarterback to Richardson. Flacco, as well, suffered a season-ending knee injury in 2022 and made a remarkable comeback in 2023. This made him the perfect person for Richardson to seek advice as the quarterback won the Comeback Player of the Year after recovering from the grave injury.
Man, it’s crazy because Joe was in the NFL when I was in elementary school. Every time I see him, it’s like, ‘That’s Joe Flacco right there.’ I ask him questions all the time and he’s just laid back. We’re in meeting rooms and he keeps telling me certain things: ‘I would do this. I would do this. But that’s just me.’ I just take it and add it to my bag. It’s amazing just to have a vet like that.said Anthony Richardson via Mike Chappell of FOX59.com.
I just remember riding on the school bus and they were winning the Super Bowl.added Anthony Richardson about being starstruck by Joe Flacco.
Richardson also recalled how Flacco had the experience of playing with legendary running backs such as Ray Lewis and together they won a Super Bowl in Baltimore Ravens– when the 22-year-old Richardson was in school.
Anthony Richardson determined to bounce back from injury
While talking about being starstruck by the veteran quarterback Flacco, the second-year quarterback also talked about his injury, admitting he feels the ache occasionally post the shoulder surgery, but he feels happy about his progress.
Some days I feel amazing and then some days I wake up like, 'Dang, my shoulder's a little achy. But every day, I work. Whenever I finish rehab or I'm in a weight room lifting, it's like, 'OK, I'm back.'said Anthony Richardson after the Colts’ OTAs

After his rookie season got ruined due to the shoulder injury of week 5, Richardson couldn’t showcase his skills which landed him among the top five draft picks of his batch. But now as he recovered, he is looking forward to competing against his peer C.J. Stroud, who won the Rookie of the Year award last season, while Richardson was recovering from his injury.
